How to block servers that are spamming the full server list in FoF
By [WL] Weasel (Probably AFK)
A guide showing how to blacklist game-servers on your Fistful of Frags (FoF) client that are spamming the full server list with multiple servers - including in this example many "fake" servers (impersonating other servers, communities, etc.).

I hoped that I would never have to write such as guide, but recent events have necessitated it.

1 - Why you might want to do this
Unfortunately, from time to time, a server operator may do some unscrupulous things, such as:
  • Flooding the server-list with "junk" servers - many excessive copies of the same setup.
  • Intentionally name their server(s) to masquerade as (impersonate) other game-servers already present in the game-server list.
  • Use various methods to intentionally populate incorrect or otherwise bad information into the game-server list. This often includes trying to make their server(s) seem more populated than they actually are. For example: This might be a server-side plug-in that makes the normal in-game "bots" seem as though they are actual human players - in such a way that the server-list can no longer differentiate them.
  • Intentionally setup in-game "bots" that impersonate actual well-known players in the community - instead of either using the default bot names, or names that are clearly identified as bots (typically with "Bot" in their names).
This can cause the following problems to the greater Fistful of Frags (FoF) community:
  • People joining a server that is not the one they thought they were.
  • Discourage people from trying to join the original servers targeted.
  • Overwhelming the player with so many fake servers in the list, to intentionally frustrate players so that they stop playing entirely.
As to why such server operators might do this, that is really not the point or subject of this guide. Regardless of whatever "drama" might be behind these practices, it is an intentionally disruptive behavior to the community.

NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced here.
2 - Our example
This is not an entirely new problem. At least one other server-operator has done this before. Tragically, the current situation is one of the most visible, because of the involvement of a formerly well-respected member of the broader Fistful of Frags (FoF) community.

NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced here.

Beyond the example described here, this same procedure can be used to nullify any future perpetrators - and also if the current perpetrator should decide to change the IP address of their server(s) in the future.

The current example perpetrator:

In this (currently real-world) example, the offending servers are colloquially known as "Mixxed", being the often screen-name of the server-operator. Their more quasi-legitimate servers (those that at least are not impersonating others, are usually labeled "Revival Ranch").

The current example victims:

Currently the perpetrator is hosting many servers that are impersonating several other prominent / well-known game-servers - in an attempt to disrupt players from successfully finding and playing in them.

Game-servers under attack in this manner have so far included at various times:
  • Weasel's Lair (my own servers)
  • Titty Twister
  • Far West Brazil
  • Gaming Kamel
  • Paradise
  • Power Games
NOTE: Server/community names have been simplified for readability.

One example victim:

Currently, my own FoF game-servers are being targeted for impersonation, as shown and notated in the screenshot below:

I normally have three (3) FoF server on-line, but currently only have two (2) operational at the time of creating this guide. The perpetrator is currently hosting twelve (12) servers intentionally impersonating / masquerading as mine.

NOTE: In order to see the IP address associated with each game-server, you need to right-click on the column headings and add the IP address column. It is generally hidden by default. Which, of course, also makes it more difficult for players to spot such impersonations.

As you can see in that screenshot, there are several servers impersonating mine, hosted with the IP address "78.31.71.56" - which is associated with "Mixxed" / "Revival Ranch".

Unfortunately, with the developer of FoF currently missing-in-action, there is no central method of stopping such attacks.

It is left to individual players, who do not want to be lured or frustrated by such impersonation attacks, to manually "black-list" the IP address associated with the perpetrator's game-servers. Which, in this case is:
78.31.71.56

However, one potential down-side to using this "black-listing" method, is that in addition to the impersonating servers being hidden on your FoF client's full server-list, it will also hide all of the perpetrator game-servers on the same IP address. This will include otherwise quasi-legitimate game-servers you were formerly interested in - in this case "Revival Ranch".

Obviously, if you are a regular to the Weasel's Lair (or "WL") Fistful of Frags servers, I strongly suggest that you blacklist the perpetrator's game-server IP address. Of course, it is entirely up to you. I can not (nor should I be able to) force this on you. In the end, you are in control and it is your decision how much disruptive actions you are willing to tolerate.
2b - Update: Yet another example
NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced here.

Unfortunately, as of recently (2026-06-26) the previously documented offender if now targeting another community's FoF game-servers.

Example of the Salty Saloon Spitoon (currently 5) legitimate Fistful of Frags[http//Fistful+of+Frags] (FoF) game-servers - note the IP address information shown (starting with 81.169.196.24):

Example of the (currently 62) fake / impersonating servers - note the IP address information shown (starting with 78.31.71.56):

NOTE: Not all fake servers are shown, because it will not all fit in one screenshot.
3 - How to do it
NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced.

Blacklisting an IP address in the full ("Find Servers") server-list is relatively easy:
  • Click the "Find Servers" option on the main Fistful of Frags screen.
  • Click the "Blacklisted Servers" tab along the top of the servers-list.
  • Click the "Add a server" button in the bottom-right corner.
  • In the box that pops-up, enter the IP address you want to black-list in this format:
    ###.###.###.###
  • Click the "Add this address to blacklist" button.

NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced here.

Below is an example of what that process looks like:
4 - The end-result
If you then return to the "Internet" tab of the server-list, you will notice that all servers associated with that IP address are now hidden.

NOTE: Due to recent events (circa July 2025), I am no longer recommending blacklisting the example previously referenced here.
