First of all, I'd like to say that this IS cheating.

Well, if you prefer to loose half of fun, continue reading, cheater:

Do not forget to close the game while you juggle with files!
Steam Cloud may try to override the restored files so tell it that you want to use the files you have on your PC

To make a backup

Go to
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\{unique ID}\{219740}\remote\
Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/{unique ID}/219740/remote/
Linux: ~/.steam/steam/userdata/{unique ID}/219740/
SteamOS: /home/steam/.local/share/Steam/userdata/{unique ID}/219740/
The game saves files there
Copy all files to a safe place where you won't loose them.

To restore the game

Go to the folder where the game saves files.
Backup all the files just in case.
Override files in the folder with the old (the ones we've backed up before) files to the folder.
Go to folder 219740 and delete remotecash.vdf (As I see it is optional for Survival Mode but necessary for restoring Adventure Mode saves)

I've successfully restored my Adventure Mode game using this instruction.

I have no idea how to do it exactly on non-Windows OS.

cheers man, if you are still alive you may update it to say that it deletes merged worlds when restoring save. It deleted my unused RoG world, so i wasnt cryin. It only restores your very first world you started in

@[MCHuae]BlackFinSwampert I'm not sure how exactly autosaving system works but I do not think there is any difference between autosaving and "Save and Exit". I have never backed up the files withot exiting the game normally.

I was updating the backup, but it never actually did the "Save and Exit" option. So yeah, I lost around 38 days of progress. Maybe my auto-saves are just weird, I did just get the game after all.

@[MCHuae]BlackFinSwampert Do you mean that you've lost your progress? That is strange. I managed to save everything I had. Ofc you have to update the backup from time to time.

@Juarezo1 If "man" means "mac" it should be
~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarve/save
or
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/87583587 (there might be sub folders here)

AWESOME! I will have to remember this in the future. Just a tip, this will NOT count for the game's auto-saves. It only works for your saves when you exit the game, NOT on world creation, and NOT for the daily-ish auto-saves (running Windows 7). I have to start over from Day 1 (after living over 35 days, daggonit!), but now I have a little something for that.
