The grapple hook ability seems great for raw speed however it is much harder to use and has a much higher skill ceiling. If you want to go through narrow or small holes grapple the top of the gap and hold your space bar for a moment and you'll consistently thread the needle, great for the boost rings as most are in these kind of gaps.
Grappling the floor in ahead of you before you launch off an incline is a great way of getting more air.
Grappling the floor ahead of you as you land also builds up a lot of momentum
bit niche but if you are falling from great height and there's a horizontal beam you can grapple and swing under to shift all your downwards momentum forward. That's saved me on the roller coaster maps cause I cant help but run the rails as much as I can, even when they are going straight up.
The wings ability seems great primarily for this purpose of shifting your landing angle upward last second to adjust your landing angle if you need it. Otherwise the board seems typically better for speed.
Using wings while grounded give a good speed boost.
I'm a bit inconsistent on this but it seems that for most landing angles if you use the wings at the right moment it turns it into a perfect landing which makes them better for maintaining speed.
Perfect landings do NOT seem to give you a speed boost. HOWEVER, any landing that isn't perfect does seem to lose momentum so you always wanna land perfect if you can.
Perfect landings also give you the most energy towards your equipped ability. if you wanna go faster, maximizing your ability usage tends to help.
you can bounce off small terrain obstacles like rocks, branches, or trees at the end of an incline to steal an extra bit of height to use for more momentum.
Many terrain features have glowing rings in them. These seem to gift you some momentum when you pass through them and are great for building speed. Downside is almost all of them are specifically placed in ways that its riskier to go for them. Missing the rings risks getting ragdolled, taking damage and worst of all..... losing SPEED. Do so at your own risk.
