How To Haste (A Blip Guide)
By BlipTheMouse
Hi there! Welcome to Haste, a rogue-like game where you seek to outrun a void that will literally delete everything in its path. Only problem is... how do I "get good" enough to outrun it?

Section 1: The Basics (SPEED IS KEY!)
Hi there! I'm BlipTheMouse! (Otherwise known as Orange Juice! 🍊) A silly mouse fellow who enjoys Hasting. Now that I've introduced myself! Let's get right into the basic's of how to play Haste and achieve maximum speed's!

The game's tutorial is actually really simple! Lucky for you, the in-game tutorial already showcases what you need to do! ..Wait, what was I doing again? I have a coconut brain! Worry not! I'll explain it as simple as possible.

Upon reaching a slope (Any landscape with a divot or dip), if you hold SPACEBAR you will gradually lower yourself. Landing gracefully downwards with the slope will achieve a: "PERFECT!" or in basic terms, a perfect landing. Doing this will give you a gradual speed boost.

Here's how the system of speed tends to work:

"PERFECT!" (Will give you a momentum boost)
"GOOD." (Most of the time you will maintain your speed and even rarely get a faint momentum boost)
"OK." (Will usually decrease your speed very faintly. At best, you'll maintain your speed.)
"BAD." (Will lose almost all momentum or in the worst case, instantly have a run ender. NOTE: These normally only happen if you somehow YOLO into a pit wall.)

Holding M1 (when given enough charge which is built by getting good's and perfects), will allow you to pull out a board which helps you build speed. (NOTE: Doing this on slopes with perfect landings can stack and give you massive speed boosts!)

Note: I beat the game on 200% (Obstacle difficulty), hard difficulty, and normal difficulty to compare and contrast what difficulties should be considered. Please stick to normal difficulty for the achievements and your first play through to have the least frustrating experience. I would then recommend giving hard a whirl to test your skill-level afterwards. DO NOT play on 200% obstacle difficulty as around shard 3-4 and above it will get extremely frustrating when RNG (Preferably the layout generation), doesn't go your way. NOTE: DO NOT AT ANY CIRCUMSTANCE CHANGE EVERYTHING TO 200% (ESPECIALLY collapse speed!) You will be sorry!
Section 2: Perfect Landing's
Now that you understand the basic fundamentals, the question you've been waiting for can now be answered: "How do I maintain speed and always perfect land?"

Astounding question! The answer is simple: "TIME YOUR SPACEBAR AND KNOW WHEN TO HOLD IT DOWN."
Sometimes, it feels like the game will just restrict you from ever hitting a slope. Well? As it turns out, you just have to hold SPACEBAR. Doing so in certain biome's and regions will grant Zoe (The main protagonist you play as for the entire game), normally perfect landings if she sticks to the ground on downward slopes.

HOWEVER, at certain intervals in the game, it will feel like you have to go airplane mode (What I like to refer to it as considering you can at certain points legitimately fly across the map [THIS MAINLY REFERS TO RAILWAY LEVELS!]) If you don't hold SPACEBAR at all at certain uphill angles, you can also achieve PERFECT'S.
Section 3: Tip's And Tricks
TIP #1: "USE YOUR MOUSE!" The game lets you manipulate your camera angle for a reason. Sometimes, when a slope feels impossible to fall gracefully on, you can manipulate your camera and with practice, almost always achieve perfect momentum. I would highly advise going into the settings and turning up your sensitivity if it feels slow to help you steer faster.

TIP #2: "PRACTICE!" Muscle memory and understanding the layouts of the game doesn't come in just one night! The game has a death count for a reason. This game is not easy and with time, you will get better!

TIP #3: "UNDERSTAND YOUR SLOPES!" It'll take awhile to know which slopes seem like the target margin's and when to hold spacebar and when not to. It's all a matter of practice, practice, practice!

TIP #4: "UTILIZE YOUR RAILWAYS!" Okay, this one is definitely only when you come across a railway level. Try your best to stick onto the railway for as long as you can! My advice is to hold spacebar and release when you feel a train is coming up. Then, you can swerve around it and land onto the railway and repeat this process until the end of the level. (TIP: DO NOT stick onto the railway if it's going straight upwards.) For some reason, I've had moments where I just either accidentally hit a train I didn't see coming or when I come down, it's nearly impossible to find a proper spot to land. I would steer course from taking it upwards where avoidable.

TIP #5: "TRIMPING." (If you're a TF2 gamer who knows this term. Rise up!) Yes! This game actually allows you to "TRIMP." (In TF2 terms, upon hitting certain object's at a perfect angle, you will go upwards and gain momentum > Known as a trimp.) It is not easy in this game to do such, but I've had some pretty close calls where I trimp off a rock or thorn branch by utilizing an angle and instead of taking damage, go straight forward. This game can be very generous at times with its: "Close Calls."

FINAL TIP! (TIP #6): KNOW YOUR GOAL'S! (The game is a rogue-like and offers you various items through your journey.) Know which one's to look for. I steer-course of survival one's as I'm currently aiming to beat the game without healing items on hard difficulty. So, I look for mostly boost items to help me grab those S-Ranks! However, if you're aiming to survive and beat the game without any concerns, grasp those healing items and damage reductions. (My favorite healing item is healing upon perfect landing as it rewards the player for doing good and practicing.) My favorite boost item is the Bunny Hood (This is a joke btw. It's the Rocket Boots!) The Rocket Boots upon holding right click gives you a gradual boost for 5.0 seconds which can be really helpful in speedrun cases.

That concludes the TIP section of this guide!
Section 4: (FINALE) [TIPS FOR ACHIEVEMENTS]
Now that you understand the game's fundemental's, some tips and tricks, and more to help yourself outrun the void. There still lingers those pesky achievements that at times can feel like a nightmare. Luckily, I have discovered lots of tricks to simplify your life and avoid yourself from hours of grinding on a single achievement (Perfect landing master for example!)

TIP #1: (NO-HIT ACHIEVEMENT): Want the achievement where you no hit an entire shard (boss included?) Simple! I would highly recommend sticking to invincibility items. Fun fact: The invincibility upon taking damage might ironically be the most broken item in the game (besides invincibility on close call) as for some reason it can grant a hit without... taking damage? I still don't understand why this happens but it's clutch. Trust. NOTE: Do not do this achievement and the perfect landing one in the same run as it will get frustrating to target both at once. (Especially when you're fighting the boss.)

TIP #2 (PERFECT LANDING MASTER ACHIEVEMENT): I have a few tips for this one as it's one of the hardest achievements in the game. First, I would highly advise using a save you beat the game on for it. Second I would equip the cowl (THE COWL IS YOUR FRIEND! IN COWL WE TRUST!) I would then advise grinding out Shard 1 for this achievement. Don't be discouraged as this achievement will in fact take you a couple tries. Every time you feel like you might miss a slope or can't seem to find one. Use the cowl as it will give you a boost. It is without a doubt the must have for this achievement. Final tip of advise is: don't focus on taking damage. You're going for perfect landing's this run. If you took my advise in the one before then you're set!

TIP #3 (ALL SHARD 10 ACHIEVEMENTS): Okay, I'm still grinding for these one's currently. For the perfect landing and no-hit achievement, stick with the cowl of course. For the S-rank all level's and no-hit achievement, I would stick with the couriers board or grappling hook (I'm still working to perfect this item but I've heard the speed potential is outrageous.) Luckily, the no-item one tends to be pretty simple comparatively to S-Ranking all level's or perfect landing only without taking a hit. Only issue is reaching the boost you need to pull off the S-rank's.

TIP #4: (NO ITEMS?) Okay all jokes aside, this achievement is pretty straight forward. Don't buy a single item in a shard. If you're doing shard 1-3? This achievement can feel like a breeze as long as you're pretty decent at the game. Besides that? That's pretty much all I can say for this achievement.

TIP #5: (STAY AWESOME!) I thank you a bunch for reading my guide on how to Haste! I'm sure there is definitely people out there working on speed running this game and I'm sure the potential this game has sets the ceiling for speed-run galore. Till then, we'll have to wait and see what people do! I hope my guide helps you to achieve your true maximum velocity and helps you to get those pesky achievements!

Now stop reading this and outrun that void before it consumes you!
Make Haste!
