The Definitions and Basic information

There are 2 types of marine fauna we can catch in stormworks, and they each have their own respective methods.

Fish

Fish are cold-blooded aquatic vertebrates that typically have gills, scales, and fins. They inhabit oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes, and breathe by extracting oxygen from water through their gills.

They are caught in 3 ways: Rod Fishing, Net fishing, and shooting them with a speargun.

Fishing Method
Description
Rod Fishing
Use a fishing rod while stationary, to catch fish up to 40 meters deep. Takes long, catches only one fish at a time, and trust me when I say, you will fail a lot. The best method for rod fishing is to keep your eyes on the fish at all times, and reel in when it's calm, and stop when it starts flapping and going crazy. Despite that, it's still easy to lose the fish. I recommend doing rod fishing just for fun, because it is an extremely unviable way of getting money.
Net Fishing
Attach a net to a boat to automatically catch fish while moving. Easy to get lots of fish over an extended time. It is heavily recommended for the fish nets to extend to great depths, because expensive fish are found to lurk in deeper waters. The bigger the net, the more you will catch. You can also catch the same fish in a few different nets very close to each other, if you happen to do it right.
Speargun
Dive underwater and shoot fish manually. Best for rare, deep sea fish. I used it a lot to catch different fish in my career challenge, but it is not a viable way of getting money. To catch rare, deep water fish, such as the Anglerfish, I recommend getting the Space Exploration suit, because it is the only one capable of surviving the maximum depth of 300 meters. I am convinced this is the best way for fish difficult to get any other way, because of being a tough enemy when reel fishing, or lurking too deep for the net.

Crabs and Lobsters

Crabs and lobsters are marine crustaceans with hard exoskeletons and jointed limbs. Unlike fish, they are invertebrates and walk along the sea floor. They use gills to breathe and are commonly found in coastal waters.

The only way to catch them is by a lobster pot.

Fishing Method
Description
Lobster Pots
Lower the lobster pot whatever way you want, either be it just dropping it to the sea bottom or winching it down. Wait a short time, only a few minutes, and retrieve the crabs, by winching them to you, or taking them out of the pot while it is still underwater. Lobster pots have a capacity of 16. It's a pretty straightforward and viable way to get money, with some crabs costing up to 700 a piece!

Career Implications
How can you use fishing and crabbing to get money in your career save? Learn here!
Equipment
Implications
Rod Fishing
Fishing rods are severely inefficient, catching 1 fish at a time, I reckon it would be hard to exceed 2 fish per minute with this method, and reel line often gets broken, which means you don't always catch the fish. I would say this method is only for fun, to kill boredom.
Nets
This is a method efficient for catching tons of fish, but it takes a long time. Fish hotspots, although most of the time far away, are worth visiting with a ship with a large fish storage, to catch as much as possible. This isn't the most efficient method out there, requiring covering massive distances, and taking hours on end. Fish don't sell for too much either.
Lobster Pots
The most overpowered way to get money in stormworks career. Requiring only a few thousand dollars more than the starting sum makes it a very cost efficient method. Crabs sell for insane amounts, and catch very fast, only taking a few minutes or even less to fully fill up a pot. After saving up more for a bigger vessel, it only gets better - one crabbing trip can get you tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars!
Speargun
This method is also very inefficient, but it's one of the only cost effective ways to catch deep sea fish, and sometimes even the ONLY way to catch a fish. This isn't a viable way of getting money, and should be used when trying to catch rare fish.

If you have trouble figuring out nets, and you want to build one yourself, watch this (I haven't watched it myself tho)

Vehicle Recommendations
The following are the vessels I can recommend, for career and creative alike.

https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3311548860
Perfect vehicle to start your crabbing journey! Only 27k, and gave me 24k when loaded to the brim.

https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3339452345
Good for getting a lot of money to save up for a bigger ship, but not as good as the Crabinator

https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3342090010
My favourite boat OAT, matter of fact most pictures here have been taken on it. Great for wandering around and catching rare fish with a speargun, and getting crabs. Not the go-to option for grinding.

https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3361299034
Definitely the go-to option for grinding, with high capacity, and a lot of lobster pots. Pretty expensive and gets a while to save up for. It is possible to save up for it, I did it myself.

https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3242476819
My go-to option for net fishing. Sadly it is very costly, and doesn't yield a lot of money. Do not use the toilet, it explodes!

Trivia
Some cool random BS
  • Some of the fish in Zizo's list dont have textures yet
  • I cannot seem to find any data about the "no data" crabs, nor have I ever caught them
  • Fish die when put in a hopper, or held too long outside of water
  • Crabs actually move their legs when ejected from a lobster pot
