Description
Airborne AI introduces aircraft that patrol the skies and hunt players from above.

When an aircraft flies within 1 km of a player, a warning message is triggered — giving players a brief window to take cover. If the aircraft gets closer and has line of sight, the player is "spotted," and a squad of AI paratroopers is deployed. These AI will parachute to the ground, track to the player’s last known position, and begin a search.

It works like this:
  • Aircraft spawns and begins flying across the map
  • Players within 1 km are warned of the approaching aircraft
  • Players can choose to hide or risk being spotted
  • If spotted, AI paratroopers bail out and descend via parachute
  • Upon landing, AI move to the last known location of the player
  • Aircraft despawns after reaching the far edge of the map

Features
Airborne AI is highly configurable:
  • Adjustable delay between aircraft spawns
  • Configurable number of paratroopers and patrolling aircraft
  • Full AI customization: lootable status, loadouts, factions, movement speed, de-spawn range and behavior
  • Warning messages and optional icons
  • Force aircraft to overfly a random player
  • Expansion quest hook - activate aircraft spawns via quest
  • Safezone check. Does not use expansion safezones so you can have non-safezone no fly areas
  • Check for expansion territories. Player will not be targeted for overfly if they are inside an expansion territory
  • Option for minimum players for any aircraft to spawn
  • Supports multiple loadouts in the config. Will choose randomly unless linked
  • Supports multiple factions in the config. Will choose randomly
  • Supports linking loadouts to faction (ie: if randomly selected a faction always gets its linked loadout and no other faction does)
  • Adjustable aircraft speed
  • Included custom aircraft sound. You choose to use it (default) or use the expansion airdrop plane sound (requires missions)
  • Optional night flight toggle. You can prevent aircraft from flying at night

New features: *update 6-16-25
  • Random spawned AI no longer jump if the spotted player is in a safezone
  • Player messages no longer displayed if random spawned aircraft is in a safezone
  • Fixed crashlog on server restart
  • Automatic cleanup of stuck paratroopers
  • Added support for more factions
  • Air support flare - AYSA_greenFlareAmmo
    • When fired this flare summons a friendly aircraft to the players position. If the player can be spotted paratroopers will deploy. These paratroopers will always be the same faction as the player who fired the flare. These paratroopers will always use the first loadout defined in the config.
  • Air assault flare - AYSA_redFlareAmmo
    • When fired this flare summons an aircraft to the players position. If anyone can be spotted paratroopers will deploy. These paratroopers will follow the config settings for faction and loadout
  • PsyOps flare - AYSA_blueFlareAmmo
    • When fired this flare signals to any passing aircraft that friendly forces are on the ground. This may fool the aircraft into not deploying paratroopers. It is not a 100% chance to fool them and the chance is reevaluated several times during a flyover. Use these as a last resort to make it to safety.

Additional features:
  • Compatible with any map
  • Aircraft can be heard from a long distance
  • AI may make mistakes — not always a perfect drop!
  • AI can fire weapons while parachuting
  • Players can avoid detection by hiding indoors, behind objects, or in thick trees
  • Any AI loadout can be used. This mod will automatically equip paratrooper AI with parachutes
  • After a drop, aircraft re-arm and are ready for another drop in 60 seconds
  • Adjustable AI behavior modes:
    • Land and hold position
    • Land, move to spotted location, and hold
    • Land, move to spotted location, and begin patrolling 8 random waypoints
    • Land, move to spotted area, and begin a indefinite patrol around the spotted area. Loops, never ends

Requirements

Installation
  • Install as a client-side mod
  • Install the required mods listed above
  • Launch the server once — this will generate a config file at: `profiles/AirborneAI/`
  • Refer to the mod folder for detailed explanations of all config options

No repacks, reuploads, or redistributions are allowed under any circumstances.

FAQ
  • Yes you need Expansion. AI at minimum. I recommend Bundle
  • Yes you need admirals parachute mod
  • If the aircraft isn't making any noise you don't have all the required mods installed
  • If your paratroopers are walking underwater - That is not this mod... Its the map you're using
  • Signal flares may not reliably call aircraft if fired near thee edges of the map (working on it)

Hello
It is known issue that sometimes aircraft can get stuck at map edge. Over time the number of stuck aircraft can reach your max aircraft setting. This issue will be fixed in the next update.

Hello, we've recently had the problem that the planes at the edge of the map no longer despawn. Is there any information available about this?

Nope never heard of that. Also this mod is not 29gb. Sounds like some steam issue or something

Your mod keeps downloading when i unsub from all my mods and it says it is 29GB. I am not subscribed to your mod. have you come across this issue with anyone else?
