Introduction
I'm back again with another guide sharing some tips and tricks for Tales of Seikyu!

If you’re going to be checking it out this week, here are some beginner tips & tricks that I think could really help you.

If you don't want to read this guide and want to watch it instead, there's also a video version šŸ‘‡

#1 - No Tools Necessary?
Unlike most farming games - you don't need tools to collect resources. Instead you'll use your Yokai for most of your farm chores!

Very slight - obvious - spoilers for the game, but you can transform into Yokai, each of which have different traits and talents that can be used to improve gameplay. For example the first form you’ll unlock - during the tutorial actually - is the boar, and early on in the game, you’re told to use the ground slam ability to till the ground for planting your seeds.

But you can also use it for mining rocks or chopping down trees, which the game just doesn’t tell you at all. Or at least not that I saw.

Honestly I quite like this, because it doesn’t take up any inventory space and it also adds a bit more use for your Yokai form.

Besides the boar form, which I prefer to use, you can also use your weapons to mine resources.

#2 - Your Yokai and their Uses
I've unlocked two of the three Yokai available in Early Access.

This section has a ton of spoilers, so feel free to skip!

The second Yokai you’ll unlock after exploring the Fox Ruins is the slime. Just like the boar, this Yokai has a use on the farm letting you abandon your watering can in favour of the Slime’s magic abilities. It can be a bit difficult to use at first, but your slime can easily water all of the plants on your farm.

Simply jump into the river as a mini slime and you’ll absorb all the water and triple in size. Then you can head to your bed and water them!

But it also has other abilities, the biggest of which is the ability to swim under water. Simply equip your slime and take the plunge into any pond, lake or river on the map. I’d particularly recommend checking out the area called Pearl Lake as it’s full of pearls - surprise surprise - that you can collect for seducing your loved ones - just watch out for all the slimes!

When it comes to combat, your slime has a ranged attack, so if getting up close and personal isn’t for you then this attack may be your preference. But you do need water to power them so don’t try to take on some foes in the ruins like I did… Keep an eye on this little circle to know when you’re running low.

There’s also one final form called the Tengu that’s currently available but I’ve not unlocked that one.
This is a flying Yokai that can help you reach far places and platforms.
#3 - Upgrading your Yokai
As the game progresses, your Yokai may start to feel a little weak, but you can unlock new abilities or level up existing abilities using this in-game menu. There are many different abilities that you can unlock that can help you change up your attacks or do more damage in battle.

#4 - Shrine Bundles
Another screen on the menu I’d definitely recommend familiarising yourself with is the bundle screen. This screen lets you see all the Shrine bundles in the game and see how many of each item you need, as well as check on your progress for them.

Before I found this screen, I was constantly running back and forth to the shrine trying to remember which items I needed and how many I had left to give.

#5 - One Man's Trash...
One of the biggest tips I have and the most important tip I think for the early game, is to rummage through the bins. I know - gross - and it’s usually frowned upon in other games thanks to Stardew Valley, but one man’s trash is definitely another man’s treasure in this game.

It’s so helpful for unlocking more complex items in the early game like hardwood and bamboo, and is also great for finding the resources you need for the bundles or for collecting ingredients when trying to work out what you need for different recipes.

There are a ton of different bins all over the town for you to investigate and you’ll usually get one to two items from each one. Thankfully with the huge inventory, this isn’t really an issue but you may need to purchase a backpack upgrade as you get further into the game.
#6 - Inventory Upgrades, Where to buy Seeds, and Dyes
By visiting Musashi’s shop you’ll be able to purchase a backpack upgrade for 200 gold - I think - I can’t remember what the currency is called in this game - but it’s super affordable and there are 20 of them available.

Each one you buy adds another row to your inventory and after a couple of them you really won’t have any inventory issues!

This is also the place to go if you want seeds for your farm - Musashi always has the latest seeds in stock for every season and there are a range to choose from, including ones that single use seeds or the ones that regrow every few days but they are super expensive. I bought two of the strawberries and that was the same price as two backpack upgrades!

You’ll also notice here that there’s a wide range of dyes available that you can use to dye your clothes and furniture to really create your own style. You can also craft these yourself if you have some of the white crystals.
#7 - Farm Resources
At the start of the game, as with most farming games, your farmland will be a mess. There’ll be trees and rocks, and thatch everywhere for you to clear up and you can easily make quick work of them using your boar form.

I’d definitely recommend using up all of your stamina every day by clearing your farm. That’s because the early game is very resource-hungry and you’ll need all the wood, sap, and rocks you can get!

And while sap is sometimes useless, in this game it’s super useful for making fertiliser! You can craft this from wherever you want directly from your inventory - you don’t need a crafting table - and using it on your plants significantly speeds up the growth time!
#8 - Expanding your Farmland
Plus after you’ve cleared up each area, you can actually expand your farmland! This costs 2000 gold each and can be purchased from Sasaki’s shop in town. He’ll show up the next morning to construct your new area, which will let you plant more crops to sell for money and to give as gifts to your townsfolk!

The trees and stones on these sort of tiered areas where the farmland will eventually go don’t regrow, but all the trees and stones in the wider area of your farm do so you never have to worry about running out of resources!
#9 - Bamboo Forest Entrance
While this isn’t a huge tip, I wanted to add it in as admittedly it took me a while to realise where you needed to go to get access to the Bamboo Forest. After getting the quest to go there, I spent ages trying to access it via this river that goes along your farmland, looking for ways across and paths through the cliff-face.

But it turns out that getting there is super simple. Behind your house is a footpath that you can follow to easily reach the Bamboo Forest with no parkour, dangerous river jumping, or hours wasted running up and down a riverside - you’re welcome!

#10 - The best Map? šŸ—ŗļø
This game has one of the most useful maps and honestly I wish that other games would take notes but it’s seriously game changing - especially with a map as big as Seikyu’s!

For starters, every NPC is listed on the map - even if you haven’t met them yet! In that case they’ll just be listed as strangers until you find the time to introduce yourself. So you’ll easily be able to find your favourite villagers, whether that’s to give them a daily gift or to complete a quest.

But the map also lists every single building and what it is - whether that’s someone’s home, a shop, or another area of interest like a temple. Plus if it’s a shop it also lists their opening hours so that you know if it’ll be open instead of wasting time running all the way over there to find it’s shut.

The real cherry on the cake for me, is that they’ve also added teleport points as well! In this game there are fox shrines, the first of which you’ll unlock very early on. Every fox shrine you interact with generates a new teleport point that you can fast travel to and this works on every layer of the map!

#11 - WATCH OUT!
When exploring the world of Seikyu, there is a lot to discover and it’s also so beautiful and resource-abundant. But be careful you don’t get too greedy as one day I stumbled across this beautiful shiny gem and almost got deleted from the game by the monster that arose when I tried to break it!

Not everything in this game is nice and friendly so just be aware.

This is especially true when you are wandering around at night. There's a monster that only comes out at night and you do not want to meet them.
#12 - When is bed time?
The absolute final, you cannot stay awake past this point, bedtime is 3am, but you will get several warnings beforehand to make sure you don’t miss it and with the teleporting system it’s so easy to get to bed on time.

Having said that though - I don’t think there’s a punishment to being out late. I stayed up till 3am twice to test this - once in my farm and once while I was adventuring out and about and both times I respawned with full health and stamina!
#13 - Romanceable Characters
At the time of early access launch, there are only 6 romanceable characters: Nyotengu, Hephaestus, Musashi, Liliana, Yohji, and Anna, which I’m gutted about because I really wanted to romance Yui.

But they each have heart events for you to discover up to relationship level 4 and as the game develops during Early Access they are planning to add more romanceable characters and more heart events.

It’s not a huge tip but I wanted to share this with you now so you don’t get super excited about romancing someone who’s currently unromanceable like me and my poor broken heart and all my wasted strawberry shortcakes and pearls.
#14 - In-Game Storage
Pretty early on in the game you’ll be able to craft a storage chest and this is super easy to do, especially if you’ve been clearing the farm every night like I recommended.

Once you’ve created the crafting table, you’ll need to cut 10 pieces of wood into five planks and then you can combine them together to create a storage chest. There’s quite a lot of room in them, but if you’re a hoarder like me you’ll definitely find them filling up quickly!

There are also different furniture items you can unlock and collect that let you store resources inside, like this storage cabinet thing or there’s even this strange storage Yokai that I saw on the devs twitter page! I’ve not unlocked this yet in the game
Conclusion
Hopefully these tips and tricks help you to get started in Tales of Seikyu - it’s only early access but I think it has a lot of promise already and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

And if you have any tips of your own, don’t hesitate to drop them down below!

Thank you for your guide, my heart is gutted as the one I'm trying to romance is non-romancable as of the moment (the priest.. don't judge me XD)... Anyway if you don't mind adding to your tip, i just learned two things from this game 1. the tent and some boxes of red goblins monster can be destroyed and drop wooden plank and also you can teleport anywhere even going inside/outside the ruins to the main map and vice versa (i truly appreciate this functionality)

Cosy Peets: I'm glad this guide was helpful for you! I was so lost at the beginning too, which is why I put this together :)

Narmoe: Ooh where did you find those? I haven't encountered them yet in my game. I'll amend the tip, but I think the point still stands that at the beginning you may be looking for tools and don't need them to gather resources.
Narmoe 22 May @ 12:11am
There are tools in the game, but there are not required to gather resources. I unlock pickaxe and axe. It give you additional lvevels for mining and logging.

Excellent guide! I wish I read this before my stream yesterday. I spent so many days running around trying to find the quest to unlock tools, as I assumed they unlocked like the fishing quest. Also had the same experience as you trying to find the Bamboo Forest.. haha :smileduck:
