Due to the game being very much early access, information on the characters are limited. He's a charming cat yokai merchant with a mysterious flair and a bit of a flirt. Musashi has dabbled in Black Market trading in the past and supposedly seeks to redeem himself in Seikyu as a wholesome merchant. He presents himself as someone with secrets and power, but its not explicitly clear what those entail, or what they mean for Seikyu.

Musashi is the only merchant to sell seeds and dyes in Seikyu, but also sells Backpack Upgrades and Sakura Wine. He's referred to as the general merchant for the townsfolk and sells general goods and food to the other NPCs, but doesn't sell the player any food items but the Sakura Wine. He's known to frequent the Takoyaki stand and the tavern quite often. Musashi generally enjoys fishing, tea, and good sales. The shop is typically open from 9 AM to 5 PM or 9:00 to 17:00, with the exception of the first of the month and Wednesdays.

During the winter season, Musashi only sells Sakura Wine, Backpack Upgrades, and dyes. He also won't be open at 6:00 on the first of the season as there's no seeds to sell to the player.

-Opens the shop at 6:00 on the first of Spring, Summer, and Autumn, but otherwise continues as normal
-Disappears at 17:00 every rainy day
-Sometimes visits the Takoyaki stand in the morning, and will open the store late on these days at 9:30 (he can also get stuck on the stool, going inside a building and leaving again will free him)

This is your warning that the following information can be considered spoilers, continue to read at your own risk!

Its very clear that Musashi is hiding something big from the player and townsfolk, but its apparent that the secret is actually a second identity! Musashi still hasn't given up Black Market trading and in the end took up the identity "Nine Lives" to pursue more sales. Their likes and dislikes are the same, so you don't need to worry about challenges gifting. If you aren't sold on the idea I'll provide more information below on what led to this conclusion.


A comparison of their models


Its important to note that Nyotengu seems to be at least semi-aware of Mushashi and Nine Lives' identities, and seems to have no qualms with the Black Market trading. Despite her role as Seikyu's protector, she shows no signs of viewing this trading scheme as a danger to the town, and continues to interact with Musashi as normal. I'm not sure if any other characters are aware of the identities, but I believe we'll see more information in further major updates.

Evidence

This section will go over the evidence that confirms that Nine Lives is a second identity to Musashi.
*Loading screen hint to keep an eye on Musashi at night because he disappears
*Musashi is confirmed to be the one to go to the player's farm at night to collect goods, so he has a valid reason to be nearby
*Both are male, black cat yokai with basically the same outfit
*Have the same gifting preferences
*Have duplicate dialogue in certain scenarios, like gift giving or speaking about a player's relationship with another NPC
*Musashi has an event that essentially has him ask the player how they feel about Black Market trading, and then he encourages the player to visit Nine Lives
*Nine Lives and Musashi can't be seen on the map at the same time
*Nine Lives is the only character the player can currently interact with that doesn't have a birthday marked in the calender

The current build of Tales of Seikyu doesn't feature much content in terms of heart events and romance, but I will add more information as I get it/learn it. If you notice I'm missing something, don't be afraid to tell me!

Keep in mind, any information in this section can feature spoilers, read at your own risk.

Currently, there is only two heart events related to Mushashi. The first, he takes the player fishing and the player get a collection of fish added to the inventory. The second, he invites the player to have some tea at his store as he talks to the player about Black Market trading.

The latest Patch removes the "Lovers" label at 8 hearts, instead being "Best Friends." There are currently no Lover related events. Having a relationship with Nine-Lives doesn't seem to have much affect on the relationship with Mushashi as of the current build.
