How to Fix Subtitles Not Showing Properly with Black Bars in YouTube
By FilmAFrame
I’m not sure where else to post my Steam guide, but since Source Filmmaker guides often cover YouTube content, this is probably the best place for it.

Why This Happens
Some YouTube videos, especially cinematic ones, appear with black bars at the top and bottom. These black bars are not part of the video itself. YouTube adds them automatically to fit the video better on TVs and phones.

On computers, this causes a problem. Subtitles can disappear completely or not show up at all.
How to Fix it? Use the Ultrawidify Extension for YouTube
Ultrawidify is a free browser extension that removes these black bars from YouTube videos. Once the bars are removed, subtitles will show up normally again.

Here's a video how to enable extensions for this to work (Only enable Ultrawidify extension, not the ones in the video)
