Blackwell Unbound - Quick Walkthrough
By Steven
A text based walkthrough of Wadjet Eye Games "Blackwell Unbound". This is the second game in a five game series. The game is not overly difficult and I feel that pictures or even videos are unnecessary for this walkthrough. This guide clearly highlights the steps needed to complete the game and can also be used as a quick reference guide if you find yourself stuck at any point in the game. It should be noted that this is one solution and not any form of 'optimal' solution. I have tried to be as clear as possible, do not hesitate to ask if any of the instructions are unclear or if you face any problems in game!

Introduction

The year is 1973. The sound of a lone, ethereal saxophone drifts over the Roosevelt Island promenade, while a series of accidents plague a midtown construction site. The citizens of Manhattan take no notice of these events, let alone think they are connected.
Embittered medium Lauren Blackwell and her spirit guide Joey Mallone are the only ones who believe that there is anything strange going on, and they are the only ones who can stop an enigmatic killer from striking again. [Wadget Eye Games]
Case One
Some events do not trigger if you have not had specific conversations with certain characters. If the walkthrough says "exhaust all dialogue" this means you should speak to that character until there is nothing left to say!

Lauren's Apartment

As soon as you have control, switch to Joey and talk to Lauren on the balcony. Speak to her until she leaves the balcony and enters the apartment. Switch back to Lauren and look at your list of cases. Make sure you look at the two remaining cases on the list. Before leaving the apartment, pick up the camera and dictaphone.

Roosevelt Island Promenade

When you reach the promenade, switch to Joey and talk to the ghost playing the saxophone. Attempt to take his saxophone and begin a conversation once again. He will mention Johnny Ivory's, so make sure to mention Johnny Ivory's to Lauren. Switch back to Lauren and return to Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

A phonebook can be seen on the table, look at it and search for Johnny Ivory's. You can now leave the apartment and head there.

Johnny Ivory's

Look at all the photographs on the wall and specifically look at the people in the photos and the plaque beneath. You can now talk to the pianist. You can ask him for a copy of the photograph (which he doesn't have). Simply make one on your own by taking a photograph with your camera. Switch to Joey and look at the sheet music on the piano. You will see a name, Cecil Sharpe. Switch back to Lauren and return to Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Use the phonebook once again and search for Jambalaya Records. You will have the address, so leave the apartment and head there.

Jambalaya Records

Talk to Dwayne and he will reveal the name of the band once you show him the photograph. You will find out their name was C Sharps. Open your notes and combine Cecil Sharpe with C Sharps and talk to Dwayne once again. You can now return to Johnny Ivory's

Johnny Ivory's

Talk to Cecil and learn the name of the sax player. You will also discover the name of a reporter named Mitchell. Return to Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Use the phonebook and search for the New Yorker. You can now use the phone to call them and learn the full name of the reporter Mitchell. Leave the apartment and head for the New Yorker.

The New Yorker

Exhaust all dialogue with Joseph and you will learn of Isaac's sister. Leave and head for Johnny Ivory's.

Johnny Ivory's

Speak to Cecil and mention Isaac's sister. This will cause him to get angry. You must switch to Joey and simply look at Cecil. Switch back to Lauren and talk to Cecil about love before exhausting the rest of the dialogue. He will mention a duet, so speak to him about the duet and he will begin to play it for you. Ask him to play it again and make sure to record it with your dictaphone. You can now return to the Promenade to close the case.

Roosevelt Island Promenade

When you reach the Promenade you will see an old woman. She will talk and then leave the scene. It should be noted that if you have completed another case before this one, then she will not appear at this point. Use the dictaphone on Isaac and he will begin to play along. He will ask if you are Sarah, your answer does not matter. He will come to terms with his death. Joey and Lauren will help him move on, but not before he mentions that he was killed by an old woman. Now you can watch the scene.
Case Two
Lauren's Apartment

Just like in Case One, switch to Joey and talk to Lauren on the balcony. Switch back to Lauren once she is in the apartment and head for 53rd and Lex.

53rd and Lex

The gate is locked. Switch to Joey and walk through the gate. You will find another ghost here. Talk to her and find out that she wants someone to knock on the door. Click on the gate as Joey and ask for help. Ask her to knock on the gate. The ghost will now speak to Joey. The conversation doesn't go anywhere. Head for the trailer and go through the door. Look at the poster and see that Seagram Realty is in charge of the site. Look at the letter on the desk and find out that someone named Harriet Sherman is unhappy with the company. Make sure you look at the date, both sections of text and the signature! Leave the site, switch back to Lauren and head for Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Use the phonebook and look for Harriet Sherman. Call her using the phone and mention Seagram Realty. She will allow you to visit if you have sixty dollars for her. Grab the rainy day fund which is in a jar on a shelf next to the door of the apartment. Leave the apartment and head to Harriet Sherman's.

Harriet Sherman's

Give Harriet the money and you can talk to her. Open your notebook and talk about the construction site ghost. Keep talking to her about the ghost and you will learn that the company paid everyone to leave the building. Start talking about the construction site and you will learn of Mavis Wilcox. You should now begin exclusively talking about Mavis and will find out that she had refused to leave her home and she was then killed by an unknown assailant. Close the notebook and ask for Mavis' things, pick up the envelope and head for Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Open the envelope and look at both the photograph and the letter. When looking at the picture, look at the child and the shirt. You can now head for the New Yorker to see if you can learn anything more about Mavis.

The New Yorker

Talk to Joseph and see if you can find out any more information about Mavis. If you can't, then you found it all out from Harriet earlier. Head for 53rd and Lex.

53rd and Lex

Switch to Joey and head through the gate. You can talk to Mavis and pretend to be her son. You will find out about Sam and John Durkin. Go back through the gate and switch to Lauren. Open your notes and combine John Durkin with Sam. Head back to Laurens Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Use the phonebook and search for both Sam Durkin and John Durkin before searching for Columbia University. Call the University using the phone and ask to speak to Sam. Tell him his mother was in Apartment 3D and he will mention a gift he gave his mother. Leave and head for the New Yorker.

The New Yorker

Talk to Mitchell and when mentioning Sam's present, he should mention that it was a copy of Alice In Wonderland. You can leave and head for 53rd and Lex to close this case.

53rd and Lex

Switch to Joey and talk to Mavis once again. You have to get her to look for the book and she will finally realise that she is dead. She also mentions being killed by an old woman.
Case Three
Lauren's Apartment

Switch to Joey when you can and talk to Lauren. You are trying to figure out what is happening. You should work out that the Countess believes she is saving people by killing them. You will discover that the only connection between Case One and Case Two is Joseph Mitchell. Leave and head back to the New Yorker.

The New Yorker

Exhaust all dialogue until Joseph agrees to write an article about you. Joey and Lauren will return to Lauren's Apartment.

Lauren's Apartment

Switch to Joey and talk to Lauren. The conversation will end and the Countess will knock at the door of the apartment. When the door is answered, the Countess will try to "save" Lauren. Talk to the Countess and a fight will begin. Use the cigarette from the inventory and use it on the Countess. This will temporarily incapacitate her and Lauren will collapse.

After taking over as Joey, take a step closer to the left. Talk and then move to the left again. Continue this until Lauren wakes up. Take control of Lauren and push the Countess over the edge of the balcony.

Congratulations, you have completed the second part of the Blackwell series!

Thanks for this guide. Didn't realize at first you need to repeat the same stuff from the notebook to carry on the conversation.

It fills me with indescribable rage that Joey has to LEFT CLICK the sheet music for you to progress, instead of right click. Like, what?? He literally doesn't interact with any other object in the entire game that way. HE'S A GHOST!!! How would I have known?

the only weird part was that a white guy was the voice artist for a Jamaican role and you can clearly hear that it was some white guy doing a stereotypical Jamaican accent

thanks for this, shame it still suffers from some puzzles that make you go "wtf who would have ever thought of that" but not as bad as the first. Hopefully the next one is better
