How to recognize normal and mutated dinos
By Mr.Chew
There are two types of dinos in the game - normal and mutated. It is important to recognize them, because some achievements require normal dinos only. Especially Pistol Mastery, Full House and Tyrannicide. Here are described the main characteristics of both types for each species in game.

I think it is worth stating that, at least for the Tyrannicide achievement, mutated Trexes still count towards your total of 17 placed Tyrannosaurs. Two of mine in the trophy room were mutated, but I still received the achievement when I finally placed my 17th big boy in there today.
I'm not sure if this is true of Full House and Pistol Mastery, or if the guide is otherwise correct.
