The musical aspect of Reign of Kings is very interesting. I was surprised and delighted to find that you can control the pitch of your sounds. Since then, I’ve played for many kings and have been regarded as one of the best bards around. In an attempt to spawn more bards, I will today be teaching about the flute. The drums are also a valid instrument, but I find them harder to play. I’m going to talk about how to play the flute, some songs I found, and about some bugs/suggestions.

Unfortunately, the flute only has one octave. There is still a lot we can do in it though. Let’s take a look at what does what:


You may have noticed that there are two ‘C’s. The first one is high C. This note ends the scale. The second C begins the scale. To play a note, move your cursor over the corresponding area. To hold the note, hold right click. Play a scale by placing your cursor over the low C and move in a clockwise circle. That already sounds good! Now you’re ready to play a song in C Major.

Advanced: Most songs are played in C Major. If you want, you can use the scroll wheel to change the scale. This will allow access to different sharps and flats. Experiment with these to find some great songs.

It is difficult to convey songs without the proper notation. If you don't know the tunes of these songs, I can't tell you how to play them.

I’m happy that the music in RoK is getting attention from the developers. (The drums are going to give buffs or something). As the only who seems to care about music in this game, I present some changes that would be cool:

Bugs:

• If you have a different scale selected (Ex: Aeolian) and you deselect the flute with it, when you reselect the flute, it will say Aeolian but you’ll be playing in C Major.

Suggestions:

• I don’t know if there are any more instruments planned. If there are though, the piano is an obvious choice. It would add more musical variety and allow more octave freedom. Perhaps it could be played with the keyboard instead of the mouse.
  
• Let us play sharps and flats with C Major! (Another obvious one)
