Studio Pixel is a Japanese developer who has worked on many other games, and this second language option is indeed Japanese. You could edit your post and remove the parts saying it might be Chinese, but this is a really old game/post so I don't think it will be updated. Thanks for helping anyone who might have accidentally chose the wrong language though.
I'll teach you: Chinese is filled with complicated ass characters, Japanese has complicated ass characters that come from Chinese + simple looking characters (Katakana and Hiragana).
