The Coin Crypt Encyclopedia: Pt1. The Coins
By JSlayerXero
Coin Crypt at its base has 201 different types of coins, and the Sea & Sky DLC adds another 100 coins, for a grand total of 301. However, sometimes it's hard to tell where to find them and how to get them. This guide should help clear up some details about how to obtain these coins.

A Quick Summary of what to expect
A/N I need to say now that this guide I'm publishing is incomplete. I do intend to update it in the future to include what I'm missing. For now though, I'll include a section that lists what I mean to put in here that I haven't yet. Also, this was compiled before the Patch was released that fixed the Socialite Achievement. As such this may be out of date for some of the coin info.

Before I begin, I want to make mention that this guide will be split into parts for a mix of my sanity's sake and for ease of access. This part will include the following:
 • A long list with all the data I have on the 301 coins of the game, as well as images for visual reference
 • How to get The Final Coin (#301) from the DLC
 • A list with stack rates of the different coins; this is separate from the long-form list due to space issues
 • The Coin Crypt Fan Wiki has 128x128 images for each of the first 201 coins, and I will be using those for this guide
 • The rest of the images were taken from the in-game files, and may be slightly off to how they appear in-game
This following are planned or partially complete, but are planned for the future:
 • Basic mechanics for how coins work
 • The Coin Bags from the DLC
 • While most coins have nuances worth exploring, I'll highlight a few of these
This guide will not cover the following:
 • In-depth Deity mechanics
 • Individual enemies and listing which coins they each have, though it will list what enemies use a particular coin
 • Items, Ghost Blessings and Traits
 • The different characters and how they play
What this guide includes may be subject to future change. Regardless, expect there to be spoilers.

The Basics to Using Coins
Coin Crypt is a game where 95% of the game is about the coins. Keys? Those are coins. Attacks? Those are coins. With very few exceptions to this rule, every coin serves two purposes. The first is as money. Some coins even manage to pull off the impossible and are worth negative money. Some coins only serve this purpose as they just waste time when cast in combat. Other coins have an exact 0 monetary value, and are thus purely used for something other than spending. These range from passive boosts so long as you have them, to many, many different uses in combat.
Coin Stack Rates
Originally posted by banov:
It's kinda complicated.

Stacking is calculated with exponentially growing power, and all status coins' stacking power is calculated the same way.

Almost every coin has some scalable number embedded in their effect, and many that don’t usually incorporate some side-effect that only activates when you use it in a stack. The scaling is calculated like so:

FinalValue = round( (O * max(1, power(G,(S-1)/2) )) + (O*(S-1)) )

Where O = the original value, S = the stack size, G = a hidden “growth” amount. Every coin has a hidden “growth” stat–some grow fast, some grow slow. The “standard” value is 1.5. So let’s say you’re using a stack of 2 hit-4 coins, growth value 1.5.

FinalValue = round ( (4 * max(1, 1.5^.5) + (4 * 1)) ) = round((4*1.22)+4) = 9.

Doubloons are on the far end of the fast-growing spectrum, with a growth value of 50.

To put this into layman's terms, when you stack coins to use more than one coin at a time, only one coin's effect actually gets altered. The (O*(S-1)) part of the equation is to make sure the rest of the coins do their base damage or healing or whatever the case is, without being boosted by the stack bonus. The rest of the equation is to calculate how effective the stacking bonus is. Some coins have a stack rate below 1, and thus give diminishing returns on one coin, but generally speaking you still get whatever benefit the rest of the coins should give. It should be worth noting, anything that boosts "Stack Power" will increase the G in that equation. This means you can boost smaller numbers above 1, for better or worse. This means the Stack Rates I'm listing aren't the only actual rates you could encounter, but it will give you a good idea of what coins can do without a boost to Stack Power. I haven't confirmed this for every coin, but if anybody can confirm something doesn't add up, let me know. The following table will omit a multiplier sign, but these should be the multipliers of all the known stack rates.

Due to the Official Info Dump that banov has provided, I currently know of 18 Stack Rates. These are: 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.66, 0.75, 0.80, 0.90, 1, 1.20, 1.25, 1.50, 2, 2.25, 3, 4, 5, 25 & 50. I'll be grouping these together based on how commonly they're used, with the more common Stack Rates being listed first. Also worth noting, is that despite the formula given suggesting that it picks 1 if the bonus from Stack Rate is lower than 1, rates below 1 will properly reduce how effective a coin is.

I have no known cap to how many coins can be in a player's hand. In theory, it's infinite. However, certain status buffs to hand size, like the Coinucopia, don't actually stack, and only one copy applies. The largest hand size I have personally observed is 7. 3 copies yield the base Stack Rate, so I won't list this. 5 yields Stack Rate Squared and 7 yields Stack Rate Cubed, so I will list these. 2 is one of the most common stack sizes, so I will also list that. Listing one copy of a coin is pointless since it always yields the coin's base rate.

Common Rates

These Stack Rates have dozens of coins that have this. Around 2/3 to 3/4 of the coins in Coin Crypt either have these Stack Rates, or have one of them as one of its multiple Stack Rates. These four most common Stack Rates are 0, 1, 1.5 & 2.

A stack rate of 0 is mainly used for actions or abilities that aren't actually affected by stacking, and due to how that would apply mathematically, it will be excluded. Worth pointing out though, the Root Curse coin is listed as having a Stack Rate of 0 for a slow down status. At the moment I have no idea what this means and would love to be informed. A stack rate of 1 means when stacked, the coin still uses only its base value for calculations, and will thus it will be excluded.

While the common Stack Rates all have over 25 coins with those rates, Uncommon Stack Rates only have 5-10 coins to them. Due to how the coin rarities are spread, you can actually run into nothing with some of these Stack Rates over the course of a run. These Stack Rates are: 0.50, 0.75, 0.80, 1.25 & 4.

Noteworthy Coins: Unusual Coin Types Pt. 1, Reds
While many coins could be considered more than one type, usually speaking, there's a set of rules for what Type of Coin it is, and thus what color it gets. These coins, while they might make some sense, given the standard rules of the game, probably shouldn't be the color they were assigned. Some have this problem more-so than others. This can matter because of the various bag types that let you find these more commonly. It also matters because some coins let you cast other coins instantly. I haven't tested this much, but my guess is that's based on Coin Type, so mismatching coin types might throw that off.

This is Red?
89 of the 301 coins are Red, damage-dealing coins. Well, most of them deal damage, anyway. This is in part because it's really common for a coin that does damage to be a Red coin, regardless of whether it heals or steals or functions as any of the other coin types. These highlights, however, don't really make any sense being Red.

#043: Quickhand Charm
This thing is a steal coin that gives a speed boost. That should make it either Yellow or maybe Green if it's weird about it. Yet this is apparently a Red coin.

#059: Bramble Piece
This is a Red coin. Now that kind of makes sense since it does damage, but it does it to you. While I can't figure out what else I would make this, it could work as a Violet coin since its main function is to be negative money you don't want to cast in combat. Same applies to the Fullmoon Curse.

#124: Coal Slab
Again, this vaguely makes sense. It does damage (even if to you), and if you're looking for the Diamond Chip it spawns, which is a proper Red, then it would make sense that something leading up to it would be Red as well. Still though, it's another case where I'm not sure what else it would be colored. It could be colored Yellow since its ability is to spawn a coin, or Green like the Pinata Penny, but it is strange that it's Red of all the color.

#200: Holy Coin
While in the base game this vaguely makes sense, with the context of the DLC, this is out of place. It hurts you to do a thing. The problem with this is that even with just the base game, the King's Coin, Blood Rune and Ancient Hex all Hurt 2 to self in order to get a status effect, which makes them Green. With the DLC, many coins donate $60 to a particular Deity at the cost of doing something else, so this really ought to be Violet.

#219: Split Charm
I feel like this used to be an upgrade to the Split Hex, but it got changed to healing without changing the original coin any. Still though, this isn't the only healing coin that's colored Red instead of Blue.

#220: Petal Penny
Like the Split Charm, this is a Red Coin that heals you. It even gives Regeneration so I would think it would've accidentally been colored Green, not red.

#253: Beggar's Palm
This is yet another Steal coin that is Red instead of Yellow. Perhaps this con confused with the Poor Jack and Desperado Silver since those also have a gimmick of being less effective the more of them you own, but regardless, this should be a Yellow coin, but it's labeled as a Red coin.

#254: Venom Snatch
I shouldn't have to point out that stealing is supposed to be Yellow, but it even gives a status effect so it could've been mistaken for Green. Does Frank just need more Reds? Only reason I would think to make this Red instead of Yellow.

#255: Uranium Chunk
Again, while it makes sense to make an intermediate step to the Diamond Chip a Red, this makes less sense than the Coal Slab. At least the Coal Slab did damage to you. This drops coins. That's a something more trademark of a Yellow coin. Heck, it would've made more sense as a Green coin considering some of the Green coins. Still sort of makes sense, but it makes less sense than the Coal Slab does.

#270: Crimson Skull
Restoring coins, as demonstrated by the Reaper Dime, is a Yellow thing to do. It uses coins for their numbers as coins, but despite that, this is Red. It makes sense that if you use the Red Bag that you'd want this to be Red so you can focus on a bag of all Reds, but it's still rather jarring.
Noteworthy Coins: Unusual Coin Types Pt. 2, Blues
This is Blue?
Only 28 of the 301 coins that are considered to be Blue. While granted, there are many healing coins that aren't blue, it's usually because they either deal damage, and thus are considered Reds, or they heal via status effects, which would make them Green. These coins, however, are Blue, but don't actually belong here.

#067: Gambler's Chip
This either does damage, or it heals. Usually speaking, that would make it a Red. For some unknown reason, however, this is considered a Blue.

#113: Knight's Crest
This makes no sense at all. It does damage, which means it should automatically be Red. It also does Shield 4, which means it could be forgiven for being labeled Green. It's a Blue, even though none of it involves healing.

#122: Half-Moon Jinx
Shield 10 means this should be a Green coin. Yet, this is labeled as a Blue coin.

#271: Cobalt Wing
Like with the Crimson Skull, I can kind of see the point to this. If you want to primarily focus on Healing, then it makes sense that the coin that specifically restores that, is Blue. That said, this should be Yellow. It doesn't need to be, but that's generally considering to be a Yellow thing.
Noteworthy Coins: Unusual Coin Types Pt. 3, Yellows
This is Yellow?
44 of the 301 coins register as Yellows. These are coins that Steal, Drop, Copy, Steal the opponent's casting coin, and/or anything that uses coins as units. There are, however, some coins that either don't belong here, or at the very least, don't make sense given all the other strange exceptions that exist.

#062: Cheetahfeet
Why is this a Yellow. Sure it lets you escape without any penalty but the cast of the coin, and that means you don't drop what's in your hand, but that's not manipulating coins as units. If anything this should be either a Green, or a Violet. While Green might make no sense since this isn't affecting statuses, it's worth nothing that not all Violet coins are best when not used, so this could make sense as one of those weird Violet coins that you actually want to cast.

#135: Smorgaiscoin
On the one hand, I can sort of see why this is a Yellow. On another hand, I don't see any other color where it makes sense in. Still, it feels like an odd choice. Makes sense, but just casting everything at once doesn't feel like something that's very typical of Yellows.

Noteworthy Coins: Unusual Coin Types Pt. 4, Greens
This is Green?
With over 100 of the 301 coins to its name, the Green coins are the largest set of Coins in the game. It's understandable why. Green coins are based on status effects and giving statuses. In fact, if you were to take into consideration how many coins give a status that aren't Green, we'd probably have over 200 coins that would be Greens. Some, however, really don't make any sense to actually be Green. These really could be another color.

#098: Angel Wing
Originally I thought that the Angel Charm made no sense since this coin exists, I checked again, and it turns out that coins that heal your status do belong as Blues. Thus, this coin ought to be a blue. While sure this gives you protect status, the Angel Charm also gives you protect status if you stack the Angel Charm. This kind of makes sense to be a Green, but given Blues usually override Greens, this should be Blue.

#153: Pinata Penny
This should probably be Yellow.Since it deals with giving you coins in Units, that should qualify this as a Yellow. Despite that, this is considered to be a Green. This isn't the only instance of this, though.

#258: Cursebreaker
Oh sure, the Pinata Penny simply gives you stuff, but this involves dropping. Granted, there's a lot of self-drop coins that are Greens or even Blues instead of Yellows, you can sort of guess what a coin's function is by its primary action. This manipulates coins by units, so this ought to be a Yellow, not a Green.

#268: Toonie
I don't get why restoring coins is Yellow, but getting coins isn't. However, this is another coin that gives you stuff but isn't considered a Yellow.

#272: Viridian Raven
Like with Crimson Skull and Cobalt Wing, this makes sense to restore your Green coins by also being Green, and thus you can focus on mostly Greens. However, this is a feature of Yellow coins.
Noteworthy Coins: Unusual Coin Types Pt. 5, Violets
This is Violet?
34 of the 301 coins are Violets. Wile the original guideline for Violets is that they're use is not being cast in combat, even some of the original 201 broke from this. Violet coins are often coins that just don't fit into other categories, but usually they're passives that work in the bag. These, however, actually do stuff when cast in combat, and thus shouldn't really belong here. Granted, some of these might just be expanding upon what a Violet coin is, as of the DLC, but some of these definitely could fit into another category.

#016: Gold Doubloon
While its primary function is arguably to be a $50 coin, this coin does 1 damage when cast. However due to the stack rate of 50, casting multiples of these does more damage than any other thing in the game. Most Violets that do nothing have a cast time of 1, which means casting them would at best be a faster redraw. This has a cast time of 4, which does suggest that it does more.

#167: Key Coin
This unlocks gates that lead to either chests, or underground. A secret is that you can open bag next to trees or certain pillars to get access to secrets. While these make sense to be Violet, the reason this is here is because of its 3-beat cast time. Yes, it has a combat function. If you use it on a chest enemy you'll instantly win and get several Gold Doubloons for your trouble. That's probably worth more than the coins you'd get from the secret area or locked chest, but it's up to you to decide if it's really worth it or not.

#168: Fleetfoot Token
While yes, the primary function of this is to be in the bag and not be cast, it does damage when cast. Unlike some of the other Violets, this actually tells you that. Furthermore, the Loonie Bag has five of these as your only tool to defend yourself. This could be considered a Red. I see why it's considered Violet, but it should be Red given the usual rules of how Reds work.

#260: Pearl
Cast time? 4 beats. This works like an upgrade to the Golden Goose. It takes twice as long to cast and gives twice as many Gold Doubloons. However, it already is worth $100, so you need to win against two enemies to really make that worthwhile. Still, this could be considered a Green coin instead of Violet.

#291-297 The Deity Pledges
These are what I meant by the DLC possibly expanding upon what a Violet coin is. These all do different things, but their primary use is in combat. However, what it does is give you favor with the deities. Thus, while these don't really belong in traditional Violet, they would have to be colored on an individual basis if they weren't. The only other two coins that adjust deity friendship are the Holy Coin and the Forbidden Coin. However, The Forbidden Coin does damage, so it makes sense to be Red. The Holy Coin does self-damage, so it made sense to be Red before these came along.

#299: Coindust Disc
While this does have a use in combat to copy itself, that's to counteract the fact it melts in your bag and drops itself after a set period of time. The real functionality of this IS to be in your bag so that you can convert it into The Final Coin at the Coindust Forge. This is a pretty Violet thing to be, but the use in combat makes it rather odd. Though, the Deity Pledges prove that Violets can be Violets without necessarily having to only have use that isn't casting them.

The DLC Coins Pt. 11 (299-301) The Final Coin
#299: Coindust Disc
Melts in bag, use to duplicate
$1, speed 2
Carries multicolored component material beneath the surface. Ingredients for something greater.
Coin Type: Violet
Stack Rate: 0

The first part to obtaining the final coin. A copy of the Coindust Disc is found within the first level of either the Forest, or Underwater. Due to being unable to access the Crypts, starting from Sky World means you won't be able to obtain a Coindust Disc, even if you wanted one. If you can take at least one copy of this to Forge 2, you will find eventually find an area that looks like this:

Open your bag, and all copies of Coindust Disc will be removed, with the trade being that you get one copy of The Final Coin. This is a difficult task to pull off, however, as the Disc melts over time, and if you don't copy it then you will eventually lose your last copy. Whether you copy through the Coin itself or some other method is up to you though. While it does let you copy the Disc despite your stuffed bag, its property of drawing more often also means once you have enough of them, the Disc will clutter your hand and stop you from casting other coins. While it is a tedious and difficult task of taking a Coindust Disc to Forge 2, it is alleviated somewhat if you have a Coin Pouch. Coins held in the Coin Pouch are basically separate entities to the rest of your hand and bag, and more importantly, cannot be dropped. As such, if you use the space in a Coin Pouch for the Coindust Disc, it's just a matter of using it during Forge 2 and reaching the Coindust Forge before the Disc drops from your bag.

#300: Cardboard Cutout
The Final Coin can't be copied
$0, speed 1
Its precise nature is a complete mystery.
Coin Type: Violet
Stack Rate: --

This coin is obtained if you attempt to copy The Final Coin. Outside of letting you know you can't copy The Final Coin, this does nothing. It has no value, a generic cast speed of 1 for useless Violet coins, and even if cast in a stack it does nothing. That said, it isn't impossible to "copy" The Final Coin, but you can't duplicate it through traditional methods. Returning it via Coin Revive abilities doesn't even work, but Coins like the Double Crook (278) can be used to spawn copies of The Final Coin. In theory if the cast is interrupted you will get more copies of The Final Coin, but I can't be for certain since that is highly unlike to ever happen. I know I haven't seen it happen yet. That said, I forgot to check how insanely powerful it was to cast The Final Coin in a stack, using the Double Crook. I'll need to look into that later.

#301: The Final Coin
Hit, heal and steal 100
$1000, speed 0
The final creation of the ancients, meant to destroy the deities. Never used.
Coin Type: Rainbow (Gradually goes from Red to Violet then to Red again)
Stack Rate: ??

This thing is meant to kill the deity at the end of Forge 3. Hit 100 won't kill them. Heal 100 is wasted unless you somehow manage a setup with 100 health, which is highly unlikely. The real trick, is that it has Steal 100. Nothing in the game starts with that many coins, and even obtaining that many as a player can be a challenge. if you want to fight the Deity without this thing, I still recommend trying to copy it, as doing so will spawn a Cardboard Cutout. As it's already hard enough to get this, if you haven't ever obtained a Cardboard Cutout before, I recommend finding a way to copy The Final Coin and obtain a Cardboard Cutout to fill in your in-game encyclopedia. I'm not sure if this coin draws more often, but it felt like it did when I obtained it as the Hero, but then the Hero inherently has fewer coins in her bag than most other characters, so I can't be sure.
Credits and Final Thoughts

Props to Banov for creating an info dump on this game. This is incomplete and at this point it might even be outdated, but it did give me a truckload of information that would've take a long time to get through in-game testing. You can find the info dump here[dumbandfat.com] if you want to check it out.

Kudos to the Coin Crypt Wiki for having already made 128x128 images for the first 201 coins of the base game. Check them out here.[coin-crypt.wikia.com]

Some interesting info for the game can be found on the official Coin Crypt Tumblr.[coincrypt.tumblr.com]

Thanks be to the person behind this video. This helped me to decompile the images of this game and get good rips of coins 202-301. This guide would've been less complete than it is right now if not for this person.

@JSlayerXero I was able to extract the data, so no need to share anything.
For those curious, Coin Crypt is a GameMaker game, and its main directory contains a file called data.win that holds all the images/audio. Use a tool like "GMExtract" to acquire the data within this data.win file.

Thanks for the info, knowing that it's a GameMaker game should point me in the right direction! Would you be willing to share the decompiled images? If not, no worries, the info about the video topic was informative. Thanks for the swift response as well!

No, I do not remember. I vaguely recall the video was about a program that de-compiles Game Maker executables. However, as that was several computers ago for me, I no longer have the program and can't tell you much. I do still have the de-compiled images though. While the first several images are separate sprites the rest are stored in big sprite sheets that made it tedious to separate them all into individual coins. Although, the DLC battle sprites are instead in a separate folder in the directory of the game and not store din the executable like everything else. I have no idea why it's like this.

Thank you for the wonderful guide!

I am interested in exploring the image files for this game. The video link you posted in the Credits section is no longer available, do you recall the process you took to decompile the game images? Thanks!

The fact that it took me so long to stumble on how stacking Dubloons causes insane amounts of damage leads me to think there should be a guide that briefly covers how each class wrecks things. "Princess: Autodrop coins when you cast coins, this gets you Gold Dubloons :ccoin: in exchange. Casting Stacks of Gold Dubloons :ccoin: causes insane amounts of damage, and still autoactivates the autodrop-exchange ability of the princess. Congrats, you are now Princess Butterfingers "Gold Touch" Lausterkeys. Go and conquer."

Anyway, thanks for the guide. That was a lot of effort, no doubt. Good job.

I had that planned a long time ago and I believe I still have part of it lying around but it's been several months now since I last played this game. After the massive undertaking that was even making this first part I suffered some major burnout and just wanted to do something else for a while and, well, I don't know when part 2. The colored text for THIS part broke. I'd want to fix that first before I consider working on part 2.

I just want to give people a warning and hope you'll post it into your guide. If you are fighting the deity Frank, DO NOT use the final coin on him. I did so at the very start of the battle and it resulted in him losing every coin, but gaining the final coin, which he then used on me. For obvious reasons, I died.

Good job, this will be a lot of help!
