Actually Change Resolution
By ReasonableSheev
You wanna play Deus Ex: Invisible War at a resolution other than 640x480? Up until now you were outta luck. Incredibly, however, I have decided to bestow upon you the ancient, mystic knowledge heretofore thought unseemly for mortal eyes.

Edit the Default.ini file in the Steam install directory. I know, every other guide says user.ini, and that's not accurate. Doesn't work. They'll explicitly tell you to avoid Default.ini, and that is because the writers of those guides (and the people who made the game) hate you.

The Part Where You Make the Game Work
Go to the Steam install directory by right-clicking on the game in your Library, selecting Properties, then going to the Local Files tab, then hitting the Browse Local Files button. Navigate to the System folder, and find Default.ini. Back it up if you want to be super safe. Open it and use your favorite text editor's (Ctrl + F)ind feature to locate the [WinDrv.WindowsClient] heading, and edit the values beneath it:

For a windowed game:
WindowedViewportX=(Your window's width in pixels)
WindowedViewportY=(Your window's height in pixels)
and further down under the same heading,
StartupFullscreen=False
For a fullscreen game:
FullscreenViewportX=(Your monitor's width in pixels)
FullscreenViewportY=(Your monitor's height in pixels)

There are a number of other settings you might toy with, but these are the important ones.

Near as I can tell, this still doesn't stop the game from crashing if you try to edit the resolution in-game, so don't mess with that. Unless you want the game to crash, I guess.

[JC]Westenra - Use the john p hd textures pack here - https://www.fileplanet.com/archive/p-9372/Deus-Ex-Invisible-War-Deus-Ex-Unified-Texture-Pack , This automatically puts the game into widescreen, And upscales the textures to full hd, Ignore the other 2 texture packs with it, Works for me. Also dont try put vsync on or change resolution in game, And try leave the mouse speed atleast on 15, Seems bit crappy otherwise.

This... doesn't work.

Tried running it in my laptop's 1600 x 900 but it just reverts the game to 1024 x 768 or whatever.

It's worth noting that any attempt to load dx2.exe or DX2Main.exe from the steam folder results in the error, "could not find steam". The game can only be booted from the Steam library.

Thanks for the simple guide, really just wanna play it vanilla in 1080 without a bunch of downloads. Might look into all the other stuff later but for now this is all I need.

Following the guide from OP, it more or less works; with no need for 3rd party apps with the exception of a Text Editor to make things easier. I used Notepad++ when I was testing this.

Results:
Resolution
- The game resolution will need to be adjusted to the in-game resolution options for it to take effect, rather adding your own monitors from my tests at least.

The highest resolution option for DX2 is 1280 x 1024.
Add the game resolution options to the ViewPort X & Y should make the screen larger as well.

Crashes/Bugs:
- Game can crash from during loading screens, but if you don't mind waiting a min or two between loading screens it's fine.
- The game duplicates, leaving one frozen and the other playable.

Conclusion:
Overall, no need for 3rd party downloads most DX2 forums keep saying you need, when you can tweak a few numbers in the files OP mentioned.

Thank you OP for the recommended fix.
