Version History
  • v0.81 - January 29, 2017 - Minor edit to the optimal method section.
  • v0.8 - July 29, 2016 - Added more information on the Summon technical smash.
  • v0.7 - July 26, 2016 - Initial version.
Introduction
Technical smashes are awarded for killing enemies with style. The more difficult the task, the greater boost you get to your item drop chances. Technical smashes are also cummulative for the entire length of the battle, so more enemies means more chances to raise that item drop rate. Before you begin hunting down enemies for item drops, it is a good idea to have Colette equip the Compound EX Skill, Item Finder (Lv. 1 - Tough + Lv. 1 - Sharp-eyed). Even without the EX Skill, though, technical smashes can make it much easier to get that Lid Shield you always wanted, or to farm Magical Cloth.
Types of Technical Smashes
Skill
  • Increase: 1%
  • Trigger: Use a tech to deal the killing blow.

As expected of a frequently-used method of killing enemies, the boost is not that great.

#-Hit
  • Increase: +2% for every 5-hit milestone
  • Trigger: Kill an enemy during an active combo.

So, for example, 10-Hit gives you 4%, 15-Hit gives you 6%, etc. Probably not worth your time, unless you're playing multiplayer. I do not know if there is a ceiling to how much of a boost you can get with this from a single enemy.

Counter
  • Increase: 2%
  • Trigger: Kill an enemy in the middle of their attack animation.

A nice random bonus whenever an enemy tries to interrupt you. Due to how this one works, it is not possible to get this one with the #-Hit technical smash, unless the enemy cannot stagger (like if the enemy is in Over Limit).

Aerial
  • Increase: 2%
  • Trigger: The party member who delivers the finishing blow must be off the ground at the time. In the case of a spell dealing the killing blow, the enemy simply needs to be off the ground.

The conditions to trigger this are a bit confusing, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I read a guide that mentions a bigger boost for non-flying enemies. This is not the case; you always get 2% for the Aerial technical smash regardless of what kind of enemy you kill.

No Damage
  • Increase: 4%
  • Trigger: Kill an enemy before anyone in your party takes damage.

Now we're starting to get to the good technical smashes. This one will stack for every enemy you kill as long as you don't take damage ever since the start of battle. Note that blocking an attack counts as taking damage, so you'll have to make sure not to get hit at all. Getting hit by an element you invalidate or absorb might not count against you, however.

Continue
  • Increase: 5%
  • Trigger: Kill an enemy within 1 second after killing another enemy.

Note that it doesn't have to be the same party member who kills both enemies.

Summon
  • Increase: 5%
  • Trigger: Use a Summon Spirit to deal the killing blow.

A nice bonus whenever you do get it. It's pretty rare, since most of the time, you only get the chance to use Summon Spirits against bosses. I do not know if Corrine is compatible with this technical smash, since you don't need to be in Over Limit to summon him.

High Speed
  • Increase: 10%
  • Trigger: Kill an enemy within 1 second of the start of the battle.

This one really depends on having strong weapons and convenient enemy positions, since 1 second is not a lot of time to kill enemies. And, yes, this does stack; the most I've gotten in one battle during single player is on 3 different enemies. I do not know if time pauses while the initial animations for mid & high-level spells play out, so this may only be possible for your physical attackers (usually Lloyd).
Optimal method to increasing item drops
As is probably obvious from the previous section, the best way to get the biggest boost from technical smashes as possible is to equip strong weapons, and kill all the enemies as quickly as possible. Starting a fight with Lloyd using Rising Falcon or Rising Phoenix works well.

for the high speed just use a mystic atre against the begining area monsters

True. I just went with Rising Falcon, since not everyone will necessarily have Rising Phoenix unlocked. I'll add that in, though.
