"Squad Wars", what is this? How did I come to even make a game mode like that?
Where does this come from?
I play Dota 2. And I play it a lot.
Right now, MOBA is by far one of the most popular genres out there, in the gaming industry. And that's why I decided that Lambda Wars could also have something like a MOBA in it, too.
Long was I deciding, what to use as a template for this MOBA-styled game mode. First I wanted to turn it into an arena with soldiers spawning every minute and attacking a lane, then it was a random arena. Genuinely, the ideas turned into a Dota 2 clone.

Then I tried something else. I played "Dead Island: Epidemic". The thing I really liked about this game was the fact that it had 3 teams of 4 players in it (hence, why you can play a 4v4v4 here). And what you had to do was capture control points which gave you resources. The more points the more resources. You also gained resources by killing bosses.

So I was thinking, and decided to start something inbetween. Have 3 teams, but have a game without Pay-2-win (DI:E) and without too long and farm-dependant matches (Dota 2). I still want to implement levelling one way or another, however.

So there you have it - Squad Wars, a game mode where you must select a Char at start and play with him the rest of the game (for now you can respawn with a new one, that is bound to be changed).
Right now I'm also thinking of some sort of a shop which will allow you to buy improvements for your Chars for a separate resource from the one you currently gain.
Introduction to "Chars" and their abilities

Right now even the Chars themselves aren't done completely yet. Some of them are still work-in-progress, because some of their mechanics require in-depth coding.
As of now, there are 12 playable characters. It doesn't matter what team you're on, you can have both Combine and Rebel chars on the same team. Each char has his own individual abilities and stats, as well as purpose. There are 5 roles for all of them. I will list them now.

The Roles
  • Tank - Chars with lots of damage resistance and special attacks that will either do AoE (Area of Effect) splash damage or have stuns.
  • DPS - Chars whose health is quite low, but are able to output a big amount of damage, or even kill with a single ability. A "Glass Cannon".
  • Assault - A char who is able to shoot while running. Good for pursuit of enemy chars or for distracting neutral enemies on the map. Assaults are something between a Tank and a DPS, because they also have more damage resistance, than other Chars and can also do damage on their own. Good to pick if you have a Medic in your team.
  • Medic - Self-explanatory. There is only one Medic among the chars. Medic has ability to heal individual chars and also heal in an AoE. To make medic have ability to take part in fights, he has a stun grenade which stuns any enemies in the radius of explosion for 5 seconds. Right now I'm thinking to remove the role "Medic" and simply rename it to "Support".
  • Support - Chars with many useful abilities, each one of them has their own individual use. Supports are normally equipped with fairly good weapons, can have high amounts of health, or even have lots of resistance, like a tank. Supports, on the other hand, have an average movement speed, or are not very useful in combat, as they mostly rely on their abilities.
  • Scout - Chars with very high speed, very high vision and a reliable weapon. Scout's only weakness is their health pool. Given the fact that they can run fast and maybe even do high damage, they are an easy target, if not slippery enough.

The Chars
  • Assault - An ASSAULT unit that is equipped with an SMG1 and can shoot while running. Has long shoot bursts. Can toss grenades. Assault is primarily used to engage in fights where Assault can harrass enemy chars.
Abilities: Grenade, Stun Grenade, Lock On (passive)
  • Flamer - A TANK unit which takes less damage, and is equipped with a flamethrower. Can toss smoke grenades to block vision. Has lowest speed. Flamer is needed for fighting off creatures, as he's got greater damage against non-human units. Also good for hiding his team behind a smoke from both neutral enemies or enemy team.
    Abilities: Smoke Grenade
  • Medic (wip) - A MEDIC unit which heals his allies. Equipped with an SMG1. Has a healing aura. Medic is primarily core healer. With a medic in your team, your squad is sure to stay alive long enough and capture as many flags as possible. He is also able to support in fights with a stun grenade.
Abilities: Heal, Healing Aura (passive), Stun Grenade
  • Engineer - A SUPPORT unit which provides defensive assets for his squad. Equipped with a shotgun and has good vitality. A very offensive unit, tanky enough and has a good damage output. Is also able to provide with cover points for his team, by building barricades.
Abilities: Barricade, Manned Turret, Barrel Trap Tower
  • Veteran - A DPS unit which has lowest vitality, but biggest damage output. Equipped with a crossbow. Can shoot explosive bolts. Char that has biggest damage output makes him great for teamfights and supporting in fights. As soon as he receives piercing bolt (which is not done yet), he will be able to fight bigger waves of zombies. Make sure you at least have a Mechanic, so Veteran can heal.
Abilities: Explosive bolt, Steady Position, Bolt, Piercing Bolt (Not done yet).
  • Scout (wip) - A SCOUT unit which has highest movement speed, highest vision and can go invisible. Equipped with an SMG1. Scout is one of those annoying little s**ts which will annoy enemy squads often enough. An unexpected C4 or a Stab out of nowhere will be quite the damage for enemy structures (assuming enemy has an Engineer or Mechanic) or simply DPS chars with low health pool. Scanner is supposed to counter him.
    Abilities: Infiltrate, Stab (WIP), C4
  • RPG (wip) - A SUPPORT unit which has high vitality, large damage output against bosses and ability to slow enemies down. Average movement speed. RPG will be your Char for fighting off bosses, as well as slowing enemy squads. This is his only purpose however - dealing damage to bosses and slowing units down.
Abilities: Stink Bomb, Detonate (does damage to the owner, but doesn't insta-kill)
  • Commando - An ASSAULT unit that is equipped with an AR2 and a shotgun. Can shoot while running. Can toss grenades. Same as Assault, Commando can toss regular grenades and shoot while running. Commando has two weapons. One for taking down zombies - Shotgun, and another for long-range fights, specifically against chars, the AR2. His primary purpose is to fight enemy units that can slow down or stun your team.
Abilities: Grenade, Weapon Shotgun, Weapon AR2, Lock On (passive)
  • Elite - A DPS unit that is equipped with an AR2, has average speed. Can shoot combine balls, that are lethal for both enemies and allies. Combine ball can kill anything in an instant. Even your team. But since combine ball is a predictable enough thing, any player, even if he's playing as Flamer, should be able to dodge it. As soon as it's dodged, Elite is left to be very vulnerable.
    Abilities: Energy Ball
  • Mechanic - A SUPPORT unit that is equipped with a pistol. Can deploy multiple manhacks, place mines, build turrets and aid stations for aiding his team mates. I noticed that players like this char quite a lot. He has lots of support abilities up his sleeve, can be both a fighter and a defender, and can also hold off waves of zombies with a manhack. His only disadvantage is his weapon - a pistol. With a pistol, he can hardly do anything.
Abilities: Deploy Manhack, Floor Turret, Plant Mines, Healing Station
  • Scanner (wip) - A SCOUT unit that can produce scanners and scan an area. Equipped with an SMG1. Scanner is meant to have the ability to see the most of the map. Given his ability to Scan, he can easilly spy out enemy squads and see their movement. Preparing an ambush in such conditions should be quite an easy thing. His scanner is able to blind enemies, reducing their vision by a lot. This is what primarily makes him useful for. Scanner is both a Support and a Scout.
Abilities: Deploy Scanner (WIP) (reveals invisible units), Scan (reveals invisible units)
  • Riot Tank (wip) - A TANK unit which receives less damage when equipped with a stun stick and more damage, when equipped with SMG1. Can switch his gear. Riot Tank is someone you can rely on when it comes to engaging in fights. His damage output isn't big, but he is able to stun players a lot. With a stun stick in his hands, he runs fast. With an SMG1 he runs slow, but is able to engage in distant fights. This is the kind of hero that you would consider an initiator.
Abilities: Raise/Lower Shield, Weapon SMG1, Cover Position, AoE Stun (currently just deploys a manhack).
How to play?
What am I supposed to do?
You're supposed to capture points to gain power. You need to gain 1500 to win the match.

Mechanics
Just like in original Annihilation mode, you are able to capture and uncapture points. You uncapture enemy points. If you uncapture an enemy point, the enemy (the owner) of the flag loses 100 power. This way you can slow your enemy down.
Keep in mind though, that if you uncapture an enemy flag, zombies around that flag will spawn in and start attacking you.

Advices
First, you should discuss with your team, what kinds of chars you need to pick. Next, you must go capture points. It's in your best interest to go all together, because capturing a point alone can prove troublesome. Do not go alone, as you may actually die.
Next, you shouldn't aim for enemy control points early on. 100 points go up very slow and you will only waste time.
Right now you're able to spawn camp. I will remove that possibility by adding force fields and turrets.
Splitting up may be a good idea as soon as you clean up a control point, leaving a team mate to capture one point and sending the rest to claim another. I will later make it impossible to capture a point if the area is not clean (if there are enemy neutrals about).
Conclusion
I will keep working on this game mode, as it is far from done.
More maps have to be made, more abilities and core mechanics need to be completed.
But from the very first few games I played with some players, I already know what things I need to improve, so thanks for that :).

Also big thanks to the guys who I added as contributors, as well as some of the Discord community peeps! All of em will receive a fancy badge from me later, so you know who really helps the devs :)

If you guys ever wanna play 4v4v4, please call me. I need to see what needs to be done there.

Thanks for reading!

Would recommend to Venezuela.
