but besides that, a way to have one animation separated from others weapons
Edit the .QC file's $bodygroup "studio" (.smd for weapon model) and $bodygroup "hands" (.smd for the hands model) for example:
$bodygroup "studio"
{
studio "rpg_reference.smd" // <--- your weapon model file
}
$bodygroup "hands"
{
studio "hand_rig.smd" // <--- your hand model file
}
Set the $cdmaterials too (search path for your .vtf, .vmf files) for example:
$cdmaterials "models\Weapons\v_rpg_new\" (weapon)
$cdmaterials "models\Weapons\v_hand_new\" (hands)
After you changed stuff in there, save the .QC file, then Compile it in Crowbar tool.
.smd files can be opened with either Blender or 3ds Max
