For the last few yeats ive been doing exactly that actually, and incorporating the color schemes from the Weapons Mix mod (it helps make color-scheming easier and provides interesting ideas). I been doing it even in my spare time and when i have new ideas, so its not even remotely complete, however its pretty far along imo. I used stuff from Links Awakening (actually took the Surf Harp, turned it on its side and edited it a bit), Link to the Past, and the Oracle games (THANK YOU RINGS!!), and also made a bunch up as I went.
I might upload it at some point, however atm its tailor-made for my tastes (ex: replaced the moblins as golems with the golem boss from Links Awakening) and is a bit buggy with positioning. Might be nice to revitalize this mod!
You're right, I used almost everything from the original LoZ. And then I practically ran out of ideas before zone 4 was introduced. Now there's a zone 5, so I really think I'd need to incorporate another Zelda game.
So in conclusion, don't hold your breath. It might happen, but who knows how long it will be before I am inspired to work on it.
On the other hand, if anyone else wants to work on it, you have my blessing to use what I have and update it for the new game content.
