[2024.1] Enhanced Identification Book

Description
Enhanced Identification Book
Current version: 1.1.4

Enhanced Identification Book (EIB) is a mod that replaces the vanilla identification book in the UZO and periscope UIs with a brand-new enhanced book. With the 2022.1 update the vanilla ID book introduced categories, making this mod a little less useful, but it can still be used to replace the vanilla ID book if you prefer the way it is organised and its aesthetic.

The enhanced book comes packed with features:
  • Fully integrated in the vanilla UI
  • Filter ships classes by countries and categories.
  • Doubles as a flagbook.
  • Use the civilian and military toggles on the category page to restrict the book to only those kind of classes
  • Retains the last opened page when you close it or go out of the UZO/periscope UIs
  • Does not close when you click on the recognise button
  • Draggable to any position on the screen
  • Brand-new vanilla-style graphics by Jim (VG) and images sourced from Link
  • New more period appropriate names for many countries
  • Full translation in all supported languages

⚠️ Attention ⚠️
It is a vanilla feature that classes appear in the ID book over time when they start being used by allied powers in the game. As a result if you start with the U96 start in January 1941 many classes will not be visible including the N-A1 which many player know about; it will appear in February 1941. Not seeing it at the U96 start is not a bug.

Note on German flags
By default this mod will show the historical German flag on the top-left page. If you prefer to not have it, do as follows:
  • Navigate to the mod folder, which should be \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\494840\2682323593;
  • Open the EIBSettings.xlsx in the Data Sheets folder;
  • Change the SafeMode value from False to True in the Settings tab (see image below). Attention! Make sure to write True, not true or TRUE;
  • Save and exit.
  • To be sure the change takes effect, navigate to C:\Users\[YOURUSERNAME]\AppData\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Data Sheets and delete all the contents of this folder

Compatibility
EIB is fully compatible with vanilla and any mod that adds new classes or category. It was primarily designed with U-Boat Expanded (and its variants) in mind, but other similar mods will work.

EIB is not backward compatible with older version of the game before release (2024.1)

EIB is savegame compatible, however clearing the cache & datasheet folders is recommended.

Future feature
  • Opens to the correct page for an already identified target.

Hi all, I had a particularly busy year with not much time to mod. I will try to update them in the next few weeks (this applies to all my mods), cheers.

Being an old SH3-GWX hardcore player, I particularly enjoyed the recognition manual they put in their mod.
Would it be hard to adapt your mod to show more ship nfo? Like aspect ratios and GRT?
Just had a look to the source code. Seems straightforward tho. I would be glad to pitch in if needed. But I'm not knowledgeable enough with Unity framework.
thoughts?

After enabling this mod, the officers won't stay assigned to their task. I wouldn't think the book would have anything to do with officer tasks, so maybe it was the latest game patch that has broken- not the mod.
I'm still posting hoping the modder will take a look anyways, and maybe-possibly update this mod to version 2025.1 Patch 5. :)
Thanks!

I have a suggestion. When attacking, and officers have already identified a target, when you open the book it starts from scratch. Can the book start on the already selected ship?

Am unable to select the "military" category in the British ships section, every other section works just fine

Yeah, just double checked. The entry for the Escort Carrier is missing from the UK section, In-game date is December 1939. Wondering if this has to do with the "historical timing" aspect of the mod. There is a carrier in Scapa Flow during the campaign mission in 1939, so might be better to have it available in the ID booklet at warstart.
