S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy Russian Voiceovers

This is a pack of Russian voiceovers for the survivors ripped from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy.
Currently, it includes six voiceovers:

• mercenary voiceover for Nick;
  
• Monolith voiceover for Rochelle;
  
• master stalker voiceover for Coach;
  
• novice stalker voiceover for Ellis;
  
• bandit 1 voiceover for Louis;
  
• bandit 2 voiceover for Francis.

SUBSCRIBING TO THIS ADD-ON WILL DO NOTHING. WATCH THE VIDEOGUIDE (MANUALLY WRITTEN ENGLISH SUBTITLES AVAILABLE) OR READ THE TEXT GUIDE BELOW FIRST.


1. First, download the add-on itself. NOT by subscribing to it.

• [SIMPLE WAY] Google Drive[drive.google.com] or Mega[mega.nz]
  
• [ANNOYING WAY] Through the Workshop. I recommend using Crowbar Source Engine Modding Tool for downloading and unpacking, but you can also use GCFScape[gamebanana.com] for unpacking.

Whatever way you choose, you will need something to unpack the 7z archives. I recommend using 7-zip[www.7-zip.org]
2. Inside the archives, there are folders named snd_[character]_voiceover_for_[survivor].

• 2.1. Choose the one(s) you need.
  
• 2.2. Unpack them into Left 4 Dead 2 folder. NOT in Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/…
  
  [OPTIONAL] You can put all the voiceovers in a single folder under one name for convenience.
  • A. To do that, create a folder in Left 4 Dead 2 folder.
    
  • B. Name it whatever you want (latin symbols only).
    
  • C. Inside each snd_[character]_voiceover_for_[survivor] folder, there is a folder named sound — put all these sounds in the folder you have just created.
    
  • D. Once done, proceed with the next step.

3. Copy the name of one folder (snd_[character]_voiceover_for_[survivor] or, if you followed the [OPTIONAL] step, the name of the folder you have created).
4. Open gameinfo.txt located in Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2. Use either MS Notepad or Notepad++.

• 4.1. Scroll down and look for the SearchPaths section.
  
• 4.2. Under the opening root bracket ({), add an empty line by pressing Enter.
  
• 4.3. Type in Game.
  
• 4.4. Press Tab once to make a space.
  
• 4.5. Paste the copied name of the folder after it like what you see below.
  
• 4.6. Save changes by either pressing Ctrl + S or File → Save.

5. Start the game.

• 5.1. When in-game, open the console by pressing ~. If you cannot open the console, navigate to Options → Keyboard/Mouse → Allow developer console → Enabled.
  
• 5.2. Type in snd_buildsoundcachefordirectory ../name_of_the_folder/sound. Example: snd_buildsoundcachefordirectory ../snd_Stalker_master_voiceover_for_Coach/sound.
  
• 5.3. Press Enter and wait for the process to complete.
  
• 5.4. Once done, type quit or exit and press Enter to close the game.

After that, the voiceover(s) should be working.

I recommend you to get rid of the default voiceovers completely to not interfere with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ones, and also free up a gigabyte or two of storage space. To do that, remove or rename the folder(s) you want among the following:

• Nick — gambler
  
• Rochelle — producer
  
• Coach — coach
  
• Ellis — mechanic
  
• Bill — namvet
  
• Zoey — teengirl
  
• Louis — manager
  
• Francis — biker

These folders are located in:

• Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/sound/player/survivor/voice
  
• Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2_dlc1/sound/player/survivor/voice
  
• Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2_dlc2/sound/player/survivor/voice
  
• Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2_dlc3/sound/player/survivor/voice
  
• Left 4 Dead 2/update/sound/player/survivor/voice

Just either remove or rename the folder(s) you do not need. Example: you have installed a voiceover for Louis — you remove or rename folders manager everywhere, so the game does not use them.

• If you have questions, feel free to inquire, but do not ask me to make more voiceover add-ons or versions in other languages.
  
• To listen to a random joke (there are ten of them per survivor. Mercenary and Monolith guys do not have jokes), use the "Taunt" command in the radial menu.
  
• I know only one different way of making the game use modified audio files without issues, but it would require an extra ton of work and time spent on my end. Easier to just rebuild the sound cache.
  
• Some voicelines might get interrupted at some point. This is not an issue of the add-on.
  
• English is not my native language (nor did I use an online translator, eh…), so there might be errors here and there. I am not an expert at all that complicated stuff myself, but I hope that I have made the guide easy enough to follow.
