History of SS-20 mod.1 Saber:


The RSD-10 Pioneer (according to the NATO classification, SS—20 Saber) is a medium-range mobile ground—based missile system developed in the mid-70s based on the Temp-2C complex.
The complex was put into service on March 11, 1976, and the first regiment equipped with these missiles took over combat duty on August 30, 1976.
The RSD-10 Pioneer was decommissioned in accordance with the Treaty between the USSR and the United States on the Elimination of Intermediate-range and Shorter-range Missiles, which was signed in Washington on December 8, 1987 and entered into force on June 1, 1988.



Technical description:

The complex is operated with the help of the RSD-10 Pioneer rocket launcher and a rocket control machine. To operate the complex, you need to press the 3 button on the Pioneer rocket launcher and then transfer to the control center based on the ZIL-131. 1 button is responsible for the rocket camera, and button 2 is responsible for the launch and further control of the rocket.
