Thank you!

Very great work done on the patch.

Since the original game, The Kushan drone frigate drones explode and replenish themselves. But the sound of the explosion is really loud for such small items. Is this something that the patch can modify?

@Bamboofats - I believe so, I just threw it on our todo list. =)

I was reading through this reaction thread from June 2016 about the big official 2.0 patch. I wonder if all the bugs pointed out there have been fixed by this mod? https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/patch-2-0-reactions/1501936/1

@Riekopo - I've read through the 2.0 patch reaction thread in the past, and we've addressed many issues in our Change List. There's still more to do, but the major problems have been resolved.

Looks like you posted this question in a number of places, so I'll go ahead and remove the duplicates.

I've noticed support frigates in HWR are extremely fragile compared to HW1. Not sure how they are in HW2, but they're very difficult to keep alive.

Also, support ships should not attack, at least not by default right when they are produced. Shouldn't they be set to passive?

@Attorney - There weren't any support frigates in hw2c, but in hw1c Ion Frigates had 15,000 health and support frigates had 12,000 health (20% less). In the Players Patch Kushan/Taiidan Ion Frigates have 26,000 health and Support Frigates have 21,000 health (19% less). Nearly the same health ratio, but weapons in HWR generally do more damage so ships tend to die quicker. All ships are simply set to defensive ROE by default, and its up to the player to choose what ROE they want to use. Support frigates do have guns, and can attack too.

But under what circumstances would repair corvettes and support frigates auto-attacking after they are produced be useful? As is, they're kind of a micro-management hell, as they carelessly dive right into the enemy. And the AI almost always attacks these ships first - making matters worse. In HW1 you could bring support frigates into battle (keep them behind your line) and defend them reasonably, but in HWR you have to keep them far away from any engagements or you'll lose them.

Ya, many hw1c veterans have complained about the default rules of engagement (ROE) since HWR was launched, so I know your pain.

In hw1c all ships built defaulted to Neutral tactics - which was basically "Hold Position" ROE. When enemy ships were attacking nearby, they would maintain their parade position while firing their weapons. Strikecraft would also strafe some side to side to avoid becoming a sitting target.

In hw2c and HWR, all ships built default to Defensive ROE. When enemy ships were attacking nearby, they would move attack. You can manually set them to Passive ROE, but they they do not fire their weapons at all. You can also manually set them to Offensive ROE, but they they move attack any enemy ship - even if they aren't attacking you.

When I was helping Gearbox in 2016, I suggested they create a fourth "Hold Position" ROE in HWR similar to hw1c's Neutral. Unfortunately that feature was never implemented. I believe this would require an engine change, so its likely not possible.

What we could possibly do, is make the repair units default to passive ROE. I opened an issue for this on our team's GitHub: https://github.com/HW-PlayersPatch/Development/issues/237

Thank you for taking this into consideration. Considering how stances and tactics work in the engine, the best and most logical solution does appear to me to default repair ships to passive (and possibly salvage corvettes as well). There's really no downside that I can see.

Ya that's probably what we'll end up doing. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like us to work on. I actually happened to see your HWR review a few weeks back, which is why we added the guard ability to kushan/taiidan proximity sensors in build 11. =)

There's still much work to be done to meet our goals: "To improve, enhance, and fix all aspects of Homeworld Remastered singleplayer and multiplayer while respecting to the look, sound, and feel of Relic's classics." ... "Make units relatively closer to their classic stats, performance, and feel while enabling balance across all races. The goal is to make all units useful and effective at what they are supposed to do, while utilizing ballistic/simulation combat features (so for example idle ships are generally easier to hit than moving ships)."

Wow, didn't even notice that ability was restored. Nice! When I first played the game I was amazed Gearbox did that, or forgot to add it.

Lately I've been running Artillerywhore's patch. One thing I really love about it was how he redid tactics and stances to appear in a logical order. Such a change might throw off people that are use to the vanilla HWR system, but the vanilla HWR system doesn't make much sense, and kind of hurts my brain every time I look at it.

Ya I wasn't a fan of the HWR stance order either. I'll see if I can make an option to change the order.
Attorney-at-Meme 15 Oct, 2019 @ 10:39pm
For those that don't care for that kind of change it would probably be a good idea to future proof it by making it optional by including it as a slider or tickbox, since it's more of a cosmetic/UI change. Once you play with it for awhile, it's hard to switch back to the vanilla system.

Speaking of cosmetic changes, I do wish there was an option to slim down health bars for capital ships, as well as smaller icons above ships (they are actually smaller in HW2C I noticed). The minimalist UI mod delved into this a bit, but I couldn't adjust to it because HWR has so many keyboard commands for everything.

Just getting the repair ships set to passive is a huge improvement though. :)

I do think that faster hyperspace for the Hiigarans is neat but it's a little too fast in my opinion
