better of just playing other mods or vanilla
So wait; they released mod tools..but still can't get the mod to work..
So is it safe to say the WW2 esque screen shots are basically just a few images some modeler made and they released them?
To the actual question of the discussion, play the base game first, then play this if you want in your freetimes' freetime. Just make sure of the modded weapons firing angles, because some cases you will have to shoot higher than you have to your lower than you should to get a headshot or vaguely a torso hit.
Other than that, I support the mod. Just got to manually delete some things if you have trouble with the vanilla assets. Also don't recruit already-armed units otherwise your historically-accurate soul will cringe with the units wearing modern kevlar.

I don't remember what I did with the "Bundle" file, so I suggest leaving that alone until you play it and it begins to do some wacky stuff, and after you go to \Bundle, head to the weapons folder and delete everything except
"Shot12.assetbundle"
"Shot12.assetbundle.manifest"
"skks.assetbundle"
"w38dagai.assetbundle"
"wmaose.assetbundle"
World war 1 through 4 .assetbundle"
"wsmg.assetbundel"
and "wwaba.assetbundle" I believe the first three (shot12 and skks) are from vanilla, I don't remember, so if I were you I would just avoid it unless ingame you can't stand the last few vanilla weapons that still remain. If you do delete them and all vanilla weapons are gone, then tell me please ^_^.
Getting Chinese characters is beyond me, but it'll be somewhere in the regular "Bundle" folder I believe. Look for similarities between the "Native" bundle files and the "Second_Chinese_Japanese_War" files. If you did the "Start" button in the ModManager, it might have overridden some of the mod files including the "charactertexture.asset" files. I'm not sure though, I only know about the weapons part, sorry. I hope what I said helped you! Enjoy the game!
