Thirdperson weapon support
In Source (Garry's mod engine), weapons are represented in two ways: view models and
world models. In the context of Garry's mod and other Source games, a view model is the appearance of a weapon model when shown from a first person perspective, which is usually more detailed than world models. When a weapon is lying on the ground, or is simply not being held by the player in first person, the world model is rendered.

Often times, players wish to play Garry's mod in third person by preference, or when a certain situation requiring an adequate point of view occurs. It is also possible to follow a player from a third person perspective when spectating. Most weapon addons usually offer support for both first person and third person.

When I released this addon, I was not sure how the addon would be received by players so I decided to only make support for first person.

As time passed, several improvements were made to the addon with the help from the community and these allowed to give a better experience for players. I still want to thank the community up to this day for all the criticism and suggestions.

From time to time, I receive requests from users stating that they would like to see third person support implemented for weapons. Since I was still studying Computer Science at college back then, I did not have sufficient spare time to dedicate to this task. I graduated and found a work that I enjoy doing and currently have less constraints on week ends though my spare time could vary differently in the following months or so.

With sufficient spare time to look into such demands, I decided to begin working on integrating proper third person support for weapons. It is currently impossible to tell how long this task will take, so I will not make any release date announcement, but I will try and keep users updated with all means possible .e.g WIP screenshots, briefing, etc. to ensure that you know how progress is coming along.

As usual, users are encouraged to provide criticism and feedback on work in progress in order to help deliver results close to expectations.

Here[imgur.com] is a first batch of screenshots showcasing
work in progress on weapons. At this time no
weapon includes a physics model, but those will
be added once all weapons will be shown.

Marc, By the way the They Hunger "Assault Rifle" is an MP5 witch is an SMG, can you change the picture caption, please?

According to this page[manke.blackwidowgames.com], this weapon is a Browning .303 Machine Gun.
I will change the name to use the correct term.

I added you to the list of contributors.

also, have this chrome fix

I would prefer to remain as independent as possible from other addons. This means that I will either wait for the Garry's mod team to release a fix for the chrome issue, or develop a fix myself.

and I think you should have something other than kleiner

I appreciate your suggestion, but for the moment, I will continue using the default player model.

Maybe later, but this will be reserved for another task.

I see that you are motivated to help with suggestions and critics and I thank you for it. However, I would appreciate if your suggestions could remain as close as possible to third person context e.g: This model is a bit too scaled; I believe this hold type animation would be more suited for this weapon, etc.

Thank you.

Here[imgur.com] are a few more screenshots for work in progress.

I will probably continue the remaining weapons next week end
or during this week if I manage to find sufficient spare time.

There are currently three weapons remaining.

To make a follow up with the current status of the third person update - I am almost finished with all three remaining weapon third person models.

Once I will have finished adjusting those weapons, I will release the update. Along the update will come an important announcement.

Today marks the release of the first update containing
third person support for weapons. I wish to thank the
community as well for having participated in the realisation
of this new update.

As seen in the changelog of 2 Jul @ 1:16pm, I stated
that muzzle flashes are not rendering when in
third person, in multiplayer (Single player is alright).
At first glance, I believe this could be related to
an engine bug, although I might have not tried all means
possible to ensure that this could be the case.

I will be busy all week at my day work so I can't look
into this issue at this time. I might be able to have
a look at it during the next weekend. That being said,
when the cause of the issue will have been found, it
should not take long to develop a fix.

I wish to thank you all in advance for your comprehension
and patience.

This is a follow up to the issue I stated a week ago. This issue involves
muzzle flash effects not rendering correctly while playing in third person, in
multiplayer.

Good news!

I should be able to make this work and by the same occasion, be able
to use Half-Life: Source muzzle flash textures instead of Counter-Strike: Source
ones. The addon would no longer require the installation of CSS for the
muzzle flash textures.

I currently do not have the time to fully make the transition to newer
muzzle flash this weekend so I will probably have time to do so next
weekend.

I wish to thank you all in advance for your comprehension
and patience.

Today, as promised, I managed to release a new update fixing
muzzle flash effects in third person while playing in a multiplayer
session.

In addition to this, Counter-Strike: Source is no longer needed
due to the replacement of muzzle flash effects by those from
Half-Life: Source.

I wish to thank everyone who waited patiently for these fixes.
how's prgress going?

@Gordon Freeman The Annoyance

These fixes have been applied since July 14. You can see the change notes here.
