Description
This is a relatively early game complete base solution that isn't too expensive to build. About half a stack of stone and a pile of wood is the bulk of the materials, the rest is pretty minimal. It's made of plain concrete and carbon composite.

It can be spawned on top of a mountain because it's relatively tolerant of uneven terrain, but be warned that if you spawn it on top of a mountain you will have some extra drilling to do! It is built to assume flat terrain with unevenness, so the easiest way to place it is on flat terrain.

Build concrete blocks and carbon composite blocks and feed them to the factory to cut down on production time. Using multiple constructors can speed this up.

Use PgDn to spawn this underground ideally with the turrets poking out.

You will need to drill out the interior. Dirt will not be removed automatically! The hangar bay is big enough for vehicles, so the fastest way to drill out the hangar bay is using a drill HV. The rest has to be drilled out by hand, but it's not too bad and you can leave some sections like the Engineering area for later.

It's only Level 7 because I left out higher level equipment like medical stations and advanced constructors. The only thing I couldn't eliminate, because the hangar doors need it, is cobalt. But only 4 cobalt are needed and this is not too hard to get on the starter planet. (It can be looted, salvaged, or obtained from a rock in a radiation biome.)

Things that are included:
  • Max solar panels with 4 capacitors. Optimized for equator placement.
  • 2 x 15mm Minigun turrets, 1 x 30mm Cannon turret.
  • Backup generator and some fuel tanks.
  • O2 and ventilation for everything except the engineering section (which you barely ever need to visit).
  • One large constructor and space for two more.
  • Food Processor and fridge.
  • Bed
  • Armor locker
  • Toilet/Shower
  • 6 double-size containers and plenty of room for more in the engineering section.
  • Farming area with grow lights for 18 plant beds (but no plant beds because you may not have a food processor before you spawn this)
  • O2 Stations
  • Cloning chamber and Med Bay area with space for other medical stations when you get materials.
  • Fancy hangar bay.
  • Control room above hangar bay with space for repair console.
  • Pedestrian surface entrance.
  • Decorated to the extent that it can be cheaply done so.
  • EcoMode switch to disable constructors when not in use (see screenshots)
  • Motion sensors to operate doors for minimal hassle when landing.
  • Blinky lights, including "hangar open" warning lights.

Tips on digging this out:

For things that are underground, use the devices tab in the control panel to select devices and turn on "show on HUD". This will make it much easier to dig out the hangar door and anything else that is concealed but needs digging out.

Use a drill HV to dig out the hangar. It's big. Even the mechanical HV drill will dig this out pretty quickly.

Let me know how this works for you and if I forgot anything major.

(The ship used in the screenshots is a Valcore L022 by Cute demon. I just thought it looked good and it was about the maximum size that will fit easily in the hangar.)

Pretty cool idea. Think I would add "parking places" extending from the hangar so you can store more SVs without altering the hangar size.

so i goofed and messed with the signal settings to stop the doors from auto opening now i can't get them to work again

I would be interested to see your improvements. I will let you know what changes I make (if any). I placed mine on a hill so I plan on creating a tunnel to give hovercraft access to the hangar but that is totally placement specific and not something you can add to the blueprint.

Thanks for the good review.

Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't look that great on the outside (though given that it's designed to place inside terrain and blueprints don't let you control terrain it's hard to predict what will work or look best on random terrain). But I think I can improve the exterior without using too much material.

The hangar also doesn't use max size doors and I don't think a max size hangar will use that much more material (it will be more but still not hard to gather since it will be stone dust and carbon). So I want to make a bigger hangar (and the material cost for the doors will be exactly the same since all hangar door sizes cost the same) because even some smallish SVs won't fit too well in the current size hangar.

Thank you for this. Fantastic base. I am level 8 playing solo survival and was able to gather the materials with no problem.
For others that are new the first thing you should do before digging anything out is to make some 15mm ammo in your vehicle constructor. Look at the base and hit "P". Turn on the base power and put the ammo in the ammo container. You will be glad you did this first when the drones come a calling.
