JULY 2021: Today marks a very special occasion. For the last two years, the Spokane Spangle and Palouse Railway has been dumping millions of dollars to restore the old P&L route. Shippers in the region have been showing interest in rail transport due to how cost effective it is, however in the past this route wasn't an option due to poor track conditions and extremely slow operating speeds. Today you will take charge of the first revenue train to run over the Palouse River Valley in years. You are in control of two Watco owned GP38-2s that the SSPR is leasing for the summer. The engines are running long hood forward because in this era the P&L Route only has one wye, which is about 50 miles north of us. Even as annoying as it is to operate, it's a pretty common thing.

This scenario isn't too unlikely, mainly because when I talked to the owner of the Potlatch Lumber mill, which is situated on the old WI&M branch, he said that under ideal circumstances they'd like to ship by rail. It wasn't possible at the time due to track conditions, however he did say that the new operator of the line was unofficially interested in restoring the WI&M branch to operating condition. Currently the SSPR uses the WI&M branch for storing various types of cars, however recently they removed all storage cars off the branch. Hopefully we'll see something soon.

Difficulty: Easy. 35 Minutes.

Required Assets:
1. US Loco and Asset Pack

Another fun run. The Palouse is an amazing area. You have captured it quite well. When this covid thing is over, our trip to Oregon will run through some of it. Thanks for all your work.

Thanks munkelwitz! It's nice to see my stuff being used. If you or anyone else ever has any requests or recommendations for scenarios, then feel free to post them in the comments of any of my workshop stuff. It seems like there's a small group of people here who consistently run my scenarios, and I'm very grateful for that.

This route is both operationally and scenically fascinating. You have done some really good work here, and it is much appreciated. I look forward to everything you do.

Thanks man! Honestly I'm surprised they can even run storage car trains on that old track.. There are portions in between the Potlatch Lumber Mill and Palouse that have saplings growing in between the ties.. not only that but I'm almost positive that the rails are still 75 lb from the MILW days lol.. It'd take a lot, but I remain hopeful. And it seems like the railroad tycoons from the mid west are getting ballsy these days, if you look at all of the rumblings about very possibly refurbishing the old Tennessee Pass route. Although that route actually has high incentive to be redone, unlike these backcountry Idaho lumber lines :(

When I was down there not so long ago I didn't see anything on the line, except for a whole lotta nothin', (It seems we travel past there whenever we're not in Moscow) although I have seen the SSPR operating, and they mentioned refurbishing their line, they've said nothing about the ole' WI&M, but you are correct - maybe we will see a return to the line ;). Thanks for making all these scenarios, most route creators don't put in the effort (or, if I am wrong, I haven't seen the examples of when they do). I really will have to try them out when I have all the assets.
