Torakhov - Cetus III

Description
TORAKHOV CETUS

(Original sub by NIR)

A reup and rework of a sub I once spent enormous time on in 2022. With all the changes the game has gone through, I felt I should go back and take a closer look, fix things that needed fixing, change and update the design even further. The other two subs part of the original campaign set, Torakhov Cetus I and II, are still around, should you fancy messing with them in campaign.

As much as I enjoyed the Eel, it did not really fit a crew of five without feeling incredibly cramped, or reducing people to having nothing to do. It also had a tendency to sink as soon as the hull was ruptured, and it made the sub a little too fragile (in my opinion). So my solution was to modify something a little larger for my own crew. I liked the design and the shape of the Torakhov, and figured it would be unusual enough to be interesting in the long term.

The sub does not come pre-equipped.

FEATURES

- Window & Low Fore Searchlight
Keep a close eye on dive teams or dangerous wrecks from the comfort of the command room. Search for artefacts, or ruins with a powerful searchlight. The window can be sealed with the press of a button in case of a breach.

- Discharge Coil
Will zap sticky crawlers. Runs off supercapacitor charge, shared with both coilguns. Wired to the nav console.

- Auxiliary Battery Mode
A set of batteries provides emergency power to the bilge, pumps, ballast pump, and the O2 generator. Vertical movement is possible with a powered down reactor. Can be turned on or off at will at the nav console.

- Remote Reactor Shutdown
A standard measure on most modern subs, the reactor can be shut off remotely from the nav console.

- O2 Override Switch (Blue Light)
The O2 generator will work by default until the reactor is out. Once power is out, or disabled, O2 generation can be turned on or off at will from the command room.

- Engine Override Switch (Orange Light)
Switch and status light both on the bridge.

- Reactor Status (Green, Red Lights)
A status light will warn the crew if the reactor is on (green), off (no light), or out of fuel (blinking red, beeping), in both the reactor room and the command room.

- Flood & Meltdown Alarm
The command room has been wired with alarms to help detect flooding events as well as meltdowns.

- Dedicated Cargo Area, Fabricators & Additional Deconstructor
The old medical room has been completely hollowed out and replaced with additional cargo space, a deconstructor, as well as a set of standard and medical fabricators.

- Doubled Coilgun Ammo Bays
Mix and match, or... simply have more. Each coilgun now has two dedicated loaders. Less reloading is certainly an improvement.

- Low Aft Camera
Grants vision on the airlock and below the engine. It is placed directly in one of the submarine's dead angles. Used primarily to survey salvage or mining operations. Dive teams should feel just a little safer. Accessible from the command room.

- Dual Torpedo Tubes
Whiie lacking the flexibility of modern railguns, the potential firepower and versatility of these launchers is undeniable. Teamwork will be necessary to make the most out of them, as they can only be launched directly fore, and the launchers themselves lack a set of optics. They were given their own supercapacitor, which is shared with the discharge coil. The coilguns have their own. Both launchers are at the very front of the submarine; Tube 1 is positioned directly above Tube 2. Launch buttons and loading tubes are in the utility room, which has been extended in length.

- Upper Fore Camera
Much like with the low aft camera, this one has been placed in one of the dead angles of the submarine, close to the discharge coil, above the ballast. It can be accessed from the newly extended utility room.

- Depth Charge Launcher
A depth charge loader has been installed in the engine room. Like the torpedo tubes, it lacks optics, and must be operated from the gunnery compartment. The charge is released directly below the engine.

- Viewing Ports
Viewing ports have been added to the engine room and the dive room. The main viewing port in the command room has been switched out for one in reinforced glass; it should be much harder to break. The engine room viewing port has similar toughness. The dive room, however, still uses the more fragile type of glass.
