Plattenbau WBS1981-6 No. 2

Description

Greetings, fellow humans!

Foreword
Based on the great work of MeisterMonis and his gorgeous ABG WBS1981-6 No. 1 asset pack, I present to you another version of these buildings:
The LPZ WBS1981 6-floor Plattenbau pack No. 2 in the Red-brown that was used in the late 80s!
Not only he offered interesting conversations about the subject, this very friendly guy also helped me alot by teaching me some Blender and enabling me to take on some of the work, which was mostly retexturing.

Also check out the other version I made:

Info
This type of building has been developed until 1981 in Leipzig by its local, state owned construction combine, the "BKL", which then produced the prefab elements used to construct them, and so they started to appear in the early to mid 80's not only in Leipzig itself but in it's surrounding cities and towns as well. Despite my hometown of Altenburg beeing one of those places, I heavy heartedly chose to change the naming scheme from ABG-WBS81 to LPZ-WBS81, as the buildings in this pack with their reddish brown colour scheme havent been built there, only in Leipzig as far as I know.

This pack consists of 10 assets, offering different varations. I've also provided some design tipps below!

  • 12m/14,4m/18m - sub categories by width of 1 entrance +its building segment
  • GLL/GLR - gable loggia left/right
  • VBR - "Verbinder rechts" connector to the right, allows footpath underneath
  • D - Decor (additional white tiles)

Needed mods:
All assets are RICO enabled, so you must use Poppable RICO Revisited to place them down as high density residentials. Otherwise, they'll appear as unique buildings, or even not at all.

Also, Loading screen mod should be used to cut down on file size, as all assets in this pack share the same textures.

Move It! is required to allign those buildings together the way it is intended, as most of them aren't flush with the plot.

Recommended mods and design tipps:
Building placement
Building control enables you to place those blocks of flats on footpaths, rather than directly next to the street, just like in real life, as socialist housing estates consisted of comprehensive path networks. Each "Wohnkomplex" part of the estate (what we would call microdistricts today) has its own amenities like schools, shops etc inside them, accessible by walking.

The residentials in this pack and the other two WBS1981-6 look the best in connetion (inside a complex/district) with everything in the Monis' BKL Leipzig collection. In fact, exclusively so if we're beeing pedantic here. ;)

Parking
Designated parking can be found on the street facing sides of the blocks, directly connecting to roads between the complexes, keeping car traffic mostly out. Parking Lot Roads together with Parking Lot Snapping are great for implementing this ingame.

Decorations
Absolutely typical for east german socialist estates are MeisterMonis' DDR street light RSL1 No.1. Decorate your green courtyards, paths etc. with them and really immerse yourselves in realism. Same goes for his other decorative assets like trashbins, fences, a bus stop and more!

Comprehensive plan of Leipzig-Grünau as an illustration for building placement and the pedestrian path network connecting all complexes and their respective central areas to each other. Car traffic is concentrated along peripherals.
