Introduction
Hello, I'm Backspace and today i'll be your not-so-professional OTXO player

This guide is going to explain how you can play faster (after all, this is a fast-paced top down) while avoiding death by a hail of gunfire

The most important part of doing so is understanding game mechanics and how they should be used.

You can also skip to Part 4 if you'd like, although I sprinkled in some advice in the sections between.
Part 1 - Weapons
Guns.

How do guns work inside The Mansion?

Magazines and You.
Every enemy inside The Mansion carries a firearm, with some variations based on the available "Gun pool"

All guns come with 2 full magazines, 1 loaded in already.
No matter how much an enemy may empty his SPAS, it will still have 8 shells loaded and an extra 8 in reserve when picked up.

Enemies select their weapons from a modifiable pool of them.

After progressing for a while, The Nun of the Church of Steel will give you the ability to change available weapons. There are some weapons that are required to be on, such as the sniper. Keep in mind that the weapons you choose to bring could be the ones to end you.

The best thing to do with said weapons would be to cycle between them as you proceed.
Paraphrasing the game, "Dont be picky with weapons. A full weapon is always the best."

This does not mean that you should swap them at ANY given chance.
You should evaluate based on your current situation
Part 2 - Focus
"Your adversaries inside the Mansion will have extremely high reaction time. However, thanks to that mask, you do have a leg-up on them."

Focus is an ability given to you since the start of the game. Simply put, it slows both time and bullets
Although simple, this ability is VERY useful.

There isn't much to say about it, honestly. Although i'd advise on re-binding it to the upper side mouse button due to the amount of times it is used.
Part 3 - Rolling and Vaulting
The part of the guide where you become a hedgehog

Rolling
Rolling allows you to slip under enemy bullets for a short while, it's used for:

- Travelling, Rolling between rooms, although sickening, is faster than plain walking.
- Repositioning, Enemy bullets flying towards you? then sidestep them by dodging laterally.
- Bosses, They tend to fill the arena with bullets, so rolling is strongly advised.

Vaulting
Kinda like Rolling, although situational it is better.
By pressing the "Roll" key you can execute a Vault over any furniture, such as tables and chairs.

A Vault gives you immunity frames for 1.5 / 2 seconds.
There is one major difference between Rolling and Vaulting:

You can shoot while Vaulting.

This is huge for room clearing. For example, pairing a Vault with Focus allows you to clear a room safely and quickly even while being shot at.
Part 4 - Being Fast
Now, in this part I will mostly be giving advice based on my personal experience. So if you came looking for "The best way to play", there really isnt one. Everyone has a different playstyle that suits them best.

With that said, if you like clearing the first areas in less than 3 hours, let's talk speed.

Weapons
Consider switching weapons when you deplete the first mag, you DO NOT want to be caught with your pants down.

Buy perks related to weapons and don't stick to just 1 type of them. Vary between what you find closest to you.

Target Priority is important. My order is:
Goo Launchers>Shotgun Users>SMG / LMG Users>Snipers>Other Enemies

Focus
Don't waste it by activating it while traveling, reloading or when very low & recharging

Buy perks that either extend it or give it additional effects.

Use it well. The best time to use it would be just as you kick down a door and have a clear shot.

Don't hesitate since it recharges quickly.

Avoiding Damage

Don't eat bullets. Don't get in the face of a Shotgunner just to kick him, instead shoot him in Focus.

Don't take unnecessary risks. Vaulting on that 1 table isn't worth getting shot by 5 enemies.

Run away if you don't have ammo. Don’t try to kick enemies or grab weapons near them.

Miscellaneous

Kicking and Doors. Kicking is an instakill, so it is viable to some extent, for example on enemies close to doors. The debris from a door is also an instakill, although the range is small.

Be aware of your surroundings. Always.

Learn killing thresholds. Enemies have 20 HP, speak with the Nun to get damage values and rate of fire of a gun.. Most weapons kill in 2 hits.

Be careful on low HP, dial down on aggressive behaviour.

Don't get frustrated on a loss. "Kill, Die, Learn, Repeat."
Bonus - Drinks
Drinks are the last mechanic I would like to talk about.
Every 3 rooms, you will end up back at "The Rose Room", a place housing a bartender and a woman

The Bartender
Talking to the bartender (and having the no gun policy be reminded to you for the 700th time) opens a menu of drinks, each having their own name and pricing.
Drinks function as the game's perk system, giving advantages like more fire rate, more coins on enemies, you get the gist.

There are also ability related perks. Some examples are:

Aperture - Increases Focus's duration.
Time Tumbler - Rolling through enemy bullets restores Focus
Grey Matter - Splattering an enemy refills Focus.
(Splattering is a chance on kill to "splatter" an enemy, giving more coins and potentially proccing perks)

The Woman
Talking to the woman allows you to buy some new perks to add to the Drink pool, for a large sum of coins. These perks will get VERY costly, just chip away at them between runs. Fullfilling the quota will give you the drink for free (like buying it from the Bar) and add it to the Drink pool for aquisition in a future run.
Ending Thoughts
So, that about does it.

This was mostly meant to be a beginner's guide with some advice for not-so-new players, although realistically speaking all this can be learned through pure experience like i did

I didn't find guides on "how to git gud at being fast" so thought i'd make my own, mostly for a friend to reference.

With that said, I'd conclude the lesson by leaving you some homework, that being these guides to glance over once in a while. Enjoy!
