Report a translation problem
it starts just fine but then wtf what a mess
8.5/10
also, Huck often breaks more than fixes, that's everyone's problem with him.
thought this used to be one single vpk before so I don't know why it was split.
otherwise its built well, runs well, and looks good, but again is difficult so its for a challenge
i mean you can remove the music, but theres not much reason to, if you do re-upload to gamemaps etc. make sure you Do Not edit the addoninfo.txt file and change the Author info line etc. which is why most devs arent happy with Hucks versions cuz he seems to think since he edited a few things and change / prepared it then its okay to label it his credited version, and its like nah thats now how it works xP
but if copyrighted music was a concern or issue it can easily be replaced or removed.
other than that, it's between you and Chris regarding whatever "Huck" did and why...
he might be a friend of mine, yes, but I'm not associated or involved in what he does.
based on what Chris has claimed...
Lucy, what I was wanting to contact you about was making an "alternative" version.
I wanted to look into replacing the supposed "copyrighted" music"...
and i also wanted to make a single VPK version.
basically giving people options of what kind of version they'd want.
in case people use their own custom music.
but also having everything be one single vpk (if possible) is convenient.
at least for the "Game Maps" web site, it was done once before.
the shorter version is, i'd like to release my own version with another friend.
and hucks version is his deal where he just has a different version of the maps then the last finale version so it shouldnt really be there to begin with, or if it was changes he made going from this last version he needs to rename the maps and stuff accordingly then make some kind of version number in the title so ppl know and can get both or 1 if they prefer it, but the servers wont mix the campaigns and their maps as the same that way
i wanna say the version on gamemaps was a 1 pack upload but im not sure, it may have been just the parts vpks all in 1 zipped folder i cant remember
yeah if this is gonna be the last official AZ and SA versions then it would be cool if we could get Jeff Broadbent and the other credits on these pages descriptions
then anyone that makes a different version just change the map file names like "l4d2_zero01_south" or "azhill1", and also put in your title its your version of the map so its noticable to ppl, and that would make it so ppl could get both versions and they wont conflict with eachother, of course changing everything that goes along with changing the map names from Hammer editor and addoninfo etc. then adding the credits accordingly
if anyone wants to make another version or branch off then they just have to detail they used AZ content as a base with the credits to those ppl, then add if you removed sounds or anything or whatever, and even if you change the landscape to the point where its a total different map and use non of the copy righted sounds, you still have to tag AZ and the credits as you used any part of it
thanks for stoppin in after retirement to clear it up Soul ;D
so anyone planning to do any work with existing content, make sure you go back over the info and etiquette on modding before going ahead, and doesnt matter how much you change something then you still have to credit it in your final product
Hucks version is the same thing but an older version so the maps file names are the same, meaning the game wont tell the difference from that version of AZ to this one which makes servers conflict with the players, so you just have to make sure to change the .bsp maps file names too otherwise it will clash with the original version, which is the problem with Brisco / Hucks version which is the same just older so its missing content
and also he likes to not give the original info sometimes or even change the addoninfo file if he edited it in some way which was the problem with the Fatal Freight he did, but thats more just him and the map version he used not an actual rework of the maps
and if anyone is gonna do something with the editors version then make sure to change the map file names and make your own version of the maps name for the title too, so if i was gonna make an altered version i would call it something like "Absolute Zero - vTDB.1" and have the credits info for the absolute zero map and then the info on what i did, or even if someone changes the maps enough that its not recognizable as the AZ maps then you call it a new map name like "Absolutely Frozen" or "Snow Blind" but still credit the AZ maps as the base content
but if your gonna rework a couple thing so Kichwas or whoevers music it was, i cant remember if Kichwa did the music or models, but the music isnt there and the easter egg room is gone then thats cool if its what he wanted, just dont leave any displacement gaps please so that way we arent leaking memory in that area all the time ;D lol, but as long as it runs fine then its the same for everyone else and theres just 1 version
I've been working to replace the copyrighted music (and remove a "naughty" secret room).
just need to get in contact with Lucy since I've been told she's the one who "owns" it now.
Chris ("Soul") also verbally claimed multiple times he gave up many rights.
Soul also claims he no longer cares about the campaigns or community.
therefore, along with the release of his source files in "author edition" I take it as fair game.
please accept my friend request.
we should talk about uploading rights because there's different versions.
i was also a former tester for Soul a long time ago.
