An important aspect of "primitive plywood" is that it is a bad product to place outdoors: it is nice to make beds, indoors furniture, but any primitive plywood structure placed outdoors would take damage over time, specially if it rains.

I like the idea of adding special woods to the game; I dislike the way it is placed in this mod, though:

I find it reasonable to exist a "primitive" plywood (made of wood chips joined by primitive glue), that would be an exchange between work time x having more material to work with (like say, 10 leathery = 100 primitive glue; 10 wood + 1 glue = 20 primitive plywood.

The primitive glue recipe would take a long time to build, https://cameo.mfa.org/wiki/Hide_glue but would produce a lot of glue, so it would be mostly a one-time effort.

Modern MDF should demand a "press" and an advanced glue based on chemfuel.

I would say "machining" would allow the construction of presses.

There are multiple types of "MDF'y" woods, either weak or stronger and more fireproof than wood. Check https://www.apawood.org/ .

The idea that Plywood and MDF yields more than the input wood holds, of course, since it is based on "recycling" marginal quality woods.

As someone who worked with plywood and LDF (not MDF, though), I'd like to say that your portrayal of plywood is flawed.

Okay well I did some digging because all my quest rewards are all plywood or MDF or whatever. The commonality of them is WAY too high. Vanilla wood has a commonality of 0.05, whereas MDF is 0.5 and plywood is 1.

I've patched it fairly simply (Plywood to 0.05, like wood, MDF to 0.025) but you might want to look at that.

@Canadian Toast. i neglected that you cant build floors out of it, my bad, but my point still kind of stands. imo the door opening speed is negligible and the lower durability is just inconvenient, as it simply burns down quicker and doesnt spread fire quicker, which i think would be more reasonable. it would also be weird if you could use it for fuel as you can just get 5 plywood out of 1 wood.

@cat liquor You can't build floors out of plywood, it makes doors open slower, you can't use it as fuel, and the durability is so low that any firefight will tear it apart. After you have enough wood, stone, or steel to build normal-durability walls there's really no reason to continue using plywood for permanent structures. It does need its sell price lowered, though.

this idea is awesome but the execution is, in my opinion, flawed. its really fast and easy to make these alternative wood types and because you dont really use wood for cover anyways, theres no reason not to just build all walls and floors out of plywood.

cutting the wood up also requires little work and resource, but multiplies the selling value unfairly. 1 normal wood costs 1.20$, while 3 MDF cost 3$.

i just wish these were slightly more expensive to make. like, for example, requiring a small amount of chemfuel. that would balance out the cost as well as prevent players from immediately building everything out of plywood, making it a more specialized material.

you also could make them slightly more flammable, so theres still reason to build walls/floors out of regular wood in the later game.

The most "Wood" things are made out of MDF or plywood. Plywood is used for ikea stuff, doors and more. Not completly sure what MDF is used for, I think kitchen counter and so.

@Remor MDF and plywood are produce of wood. It is not real "wood" but wood like. Wood peaces/leftover with glu. MDF is denser then plywood.

Plywood and MDF have the same descriptions and MDF launches into its description without a noun.

this is exactly the kinda thing i've been wanting for some time, being able to turn wood into "lesser woods" like particle board or cardboard to stretch out your supply. Would it be stupid to build the entire base out of cardboard? Yes. Do times sometimes get desperate? Absolutely, we have to survive the first week before we can make it to year four and sometimes 10 wood is a HUGE boon, lets turn the 10 into 50 or 100.
