zombies die way too easily

So this one works flawlessly, Its just that combine soldiers of all kinds dont have bodypart assigned to chest and abdomen, hence why they receive full weapon damage regardless of sk_npc_*bodypart* damage scale.

Damn, so this is why when i change sk_npc_chest to lower value it doesnt work?
This mod is a savior

I'm not sure if this is what I need. It seems to me that my character dies too quickly, to HL2 NPCs, in comp. to how long it takes for Gordon to give up in HL2. I'll try playing with the HEV Suit on & fuly-charged to see if it makes a difference...

still doesn't work

"skill" persists between sessions, I don't know what weapon bases if any besides my own have difficulty-aware damage scaling. Setting the difficulty higher may only result in Half-Life 2 NPC weapons dealing more damage.

In addition to this mod, depending on the case?

@TankNut; @Vuthakral

So, to fix NPC's being "weaker" with weapons, I can fix that using the "skill 2" command, or put in in autoexec?

thanks for this

Is there still a way to edit damage dealt to players on our end or are the values hard-coded?
Vuthakral 5 Jan, 2024 @ 7:03am
To expand on that better, "Skill" is the HL2 difficulty command. It defaults to 1 (Easy), 2 is medium, and 3 is hard. On medium the damage scaling is 1:1
Vuthakral 5 Jan, 2024 @ 7:02am
@Jamesinator Set the console command "skill" to 2, this makes players & NPCs do the same damage values with zero skill mitigation or bonus.
Jamesinator 4 Jan, 2024 @ 12:46pm
can you make a mod like this that makes damage consistent between players and npc's? so the HL2 SMG can do more than 7 damage to players?
krozbot 4 Jan, 2024 @ 10:58am
is it possible to edit the new values in the console?
hawky_ 4 Jan, 2024 @ 9:16am
nice mod! I once made a hacky version of this but for only for the arms with values I thought would match.

good job and nice mod

This changes the damage dealt to NPC's, damage to players or entities isn't affected.
Galok 3 Jan, 2024 @ 5:37am
Good addon
The Pizza is Aggressive 2 Jan, 2024 @ 11:00pm
wait so this changes the damage we deal to NPCs or is it the other way around?
TankNut  [author] 2 Jan, 2024 @ 8:39am
As for the default 3x multiplier, that's what skill.cfg ships with. I figured it'd be easier to just let that be and let people edit it themselves instead of trying to overwrite it somehow and potentially breaking other functionality in the process.
TankNut  [author] 2 Jan, 2024 @ 8:36am
I've looked at that, don't worry.

The 2x headshot multiplier that is present for the combine in the SDK doesn't seem to apply to Garry's Mod. They take the correct amount of damage based on the value of sk_npc_head.
Vuthakral 2 Jan, 2024 @ 8:30am
My bad I must have interpreted the description incorrectly, sorry.

Should definitely still be careful with increasing that head damage multiplier though, it's just the combine that only take 2x; everything else in the game already takes 3x including custom NPCs.
TankNut  [author] 2 Jan, 2024 @ 8:26am
I'm not claiming that the scaling doesn't work, just that the values that are built into Garry's Mod differ wildly from HL2 and is what makes NPC's feel incredibly spongy at times.

Fighting combine soldiers for example, a majority of the time their chest is going to be covered by their arms so you'll be either doing 1/4th the damage you should be doing, or doubling it because you hit the head instead.

HL2 doesn't have this issue because it applies 1x damage to limbs. That's what I'm aiming for here.
Vuthakral 2 Jan, 2024 @ 8:20am
I get the point of exposing/overriding sk_ configs, but what's this about claiming that the scaling doesn't work? The 3x headshot and 1/4 limb damage, 80% gut, etc have always worked properly in gmod. If anything trying to work around those has been my personal nightmare already.

Some Half-Life 2 NPCs have unique special multipliers per hitgroup however, but generic NPCs already take 3x head and 1/4 limb.

Also, weapon damage scaling depending on difficulty with the "skill" console command still works. Gmod is even defaulted to "easy" (1), which is why gmod in general is a lot "easier" when playing HL2 maps.
