Report a translation problem
You can achieve a similar effect using GIMP by creating a black-white gradient on a layer, transforing it via Filter>Distort>Polar coordinates and then using the result as a mask on the alpha channel (white should then result in full opacity and black in full transparency).
Aside: I think it's good you can't add emission here, since this could mess around with people trying to pull funny stuff hiding in the shadows and that'd be unfortunate.
But I think it should be desaturated a bit since in its current form the screens stick out too much on the player model.
Alternatively, instead of muting the colours restructure the screen in the following way: Make the background black/dark grey. Keep the dots and the grid as now (maybe a bit brighter) but fade to BG very quickly around them - the screens only glow where hit by a particle from the electron cannon. Make the sweep fall off exponentially - should make it cover a smaller sector while still conveying the sweeping motion. (c.f. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathode-ray_tube )
