Reworked Archers

Description
This is an attempt at fixing several problems with archers present in Shogun 2. The changes are as follows:
- Reduced arc height from 88 to 35 for all arrows (other projectiles are unaffected)
- Slightly increased damage for all arrows
- Bows are now affected by bad weather (- 10 Reload in rain and -6 in snow) because of wet drawstrings
- Matchlocks had their weather penalty updated to be in line with bows

Archers finally need to respect line of sight (I am aware that a different mod exists which does the same). The increased damage of arrows is a necessity given how poorly they performed compared to all other unit types. The Bow Hero in particular does now deserve his name. Lastly the changes regarding weather aim at making weather as a whole more interesting.

Overall this makes the archers in this game much closer to the likes of Rome 1/Medieval 2 Archers. They should now be alot more interesting to use and no longer make fortifications and terrain useless, while also being stronger when used properly.

I would highly recommend to use this together with this mod which reduces combat AI buffs: https://steamproxy-script.pipiskins.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3463825878 as it will make AI Archers even more devastating if they get their full buffs. However, this is ultimately up to preference.

Infos regarding compatibility:

Savegame compatible, according to my testing.

Regarding compatibility with other mods:
Altered Tables:
- _kv_rules (weather related stuff only)
- projectiles_tables (arrow related entries only - excluding naval arrows, those were not touched)

If a mod contains changes similar to those, it will most likely not be compatible. There are problably things that can be done in terms of load order etc., but that depends on the mod in question. If you want to know for certain, just try it out.
I have NOT tested compatibilty with mods like Darthmod, MOSS, and others.
Feel free to make a submod for those mods containing these changes if you encounter compatibility problems.

In battle? Yes. 6 Yari Ashigaru + 1 General with Stand and Fight can wipe the floor with most armies the AI can throw at you.
For me personally, fighting the AI in battle is not hard, just frustrating (in Vanilla). Mainly because of AI Archers and how they more or less enforce cheesy tactics. It just gets old after the 10th battle.

In the campaign however, the game is of course hard. In particular on legendary.

Sorry for not making that distinction properly when i said it was "easy". I mistakingly assumed you were referring only to battle difficulty.

Talking about campaign difficulty, you are right, the game gets easier. However Archers not being able to shoot inside castles won´t help against the samurai stacks the AI will field on legendary.

So you're saying that even on legendary the game is easy ? Is that what you're implying ?
Egalregent  [author] 9 Jul @ 5:39am
@Delicia Suprema i would not say that it makes the game "easier", because that implies that there was a point in time were beating up the AI was not easy. It just makes doing so less frustrating.

This makes the game even easier. Since archers can't shoot from a super high angle anymore they can't hit you when you're inside the castle. They can shoot the edges , but not the centre.

You should try loading it after UEFC. In theory, this will make it overwrite changes from previous mods.

I am not sure it works with UEFC, the arrow can fly very slowly at high angle when the target is close to the unit still.
Should I load it after or before UEFC to maximise the chance of it working?

I updated the mod description with some infos regarding compatibility. As for Darthmod specifically, this is likely not compatible. Reason being that i know that Darthmod changes things like archer range, which is defined in the projectiles_tables.
This is most likely the same for any other big mod.

Thank for you the mod, is this compatible with Darthmod or any other big mods?
El Coach 3 Jun @ 4:12am
Perfect, thank you!

No. The torches (if they are the projectiles you are referring to) have not been altered. Fire arrows also can still reach gates, towers, etc..
