Absolutely love this mod, been installed almost the entire time I've had this game. Quick question: does having the Quills mutation lock the "Get Equipped with Body Armor" quest? I'm basically playing a cactus, and I've been stymied because I can't equip body armor.

Hello! New CoQ player using this mod to help learn the game. I, too, would love if the mod could be updated to add Controller inputs, because that's how I have to play. As a suggestion, maybe the easiest approach would be to just add in the controller version in parenthesis next to whatever is being instructed. So something like "...to do that press Space ( A/X relative controller icon).

I use a Playstation controller, so seeing the PS prompts would be a very nice feature, but if it has to be the Xbox prompts, no biggie.

Looking forward to that additional text explaining controller stuff. MOD seems awesome, but not too helpful when using the Steam Deck.

@Darkaxt I don't think it's possible for me to create reactive button prompts in dialog. I'll check with the UI team but I don't think there's support for that.

What I CAN do is put in additional text explaining controller stuff, which I can and will do, thank you for the nudge

Not sure if this has been asked before, but is there any plan to add compatibility with controllers? The bot only shows how to perform actions with mouse and keyboard and it would be great if it could detect the use of controller and swap the references.

Oh, okay, sorry. I think I'm thinking of the armor, or a previous build with the armor. I used to have to make sure it was in my inventory. Sorry for the wrong answer!

it should be equipped, if it's not working I messed something up in the implementation. I can't really troubleshoot until I'm back home in the new year, sorry

I think you need to have it in your inventory, not equipped.

that kind of ingenuity will extend your lifespan in qud from days to weeks. Maybe even months ha ha

there's still one single house that you can steal from pretty easy, but yeah Joppa houses got fairly well perforated

It seemed like in the last build I looked at, stealing's been made more difficult now. XD I'm sure there are ways, I just haven't figured them out yet. :P

I finished the armor step of the Gearing Up quest, but then he didn't tell me anything else, although I now I have a quest in my journal to find and equip a gun. Tauun has one, but it's quite expensive and I can't afford it. Would be curious what Khashkind was going to tell me about it!

This mod is meant to be used alongside the in-game tutorial! The tutorial is for people who may be completely unfamiliar with tile-based RPGs and roguelikes, and the survival guide is more about getting through the early game.

Thanks for this mod. I actually forgot I installed it a long time ago, got into the game when the
official tutorial was released and didn't realize that this mod was actually a mod! It really helped me learn the game.

@Bracht I haven't gone through this mod in a while (in fact I think I never actually finished it), but I did just go through the "official tutorial," and it's a bit of a joke. As I recall this mod is much more in depth.

thanks for reminding me, looks like the old site that used to host my old Qud vignettes (including the original Hindren's Guide to Qud that Khashind is from) has gone down. I'll see about rehosting them on my itch.

It's great to see this mod being updated to be more in line with the changes that have been made to Joppa, also to see you are still active in the Qud modding scene.
Also, as a side note, but still somewhat related ot the mod itself, I have never been able to read your stories 'vapor and salt' and 'hindren's guide to qud' anymore, because the site's links seem to be broken, is there maybe another way I could access them, I kinda fell in love with the characters and liked to revisit the story every now and then (kinda like re-reading some of my favorite books), also I am slightly ashamed to say I never did manage to get the 'canon' ending on Vapor and Salt.

Just subscribe and it should download itself, but you may need to "enable mods" in the options menu, under the "modding" section. The new NPCs and quest are in the default starting town of Joppa, so I'd advise starting a game using any preset character -- "marsh taur" is a good start

The text might need to be updated for Spring Molting. Elder Irudad no longer has wares for trade, instead they were given to his daugher Nima Ruda, who is in the room to Irudad's right. She will sometimes have bandages and witchwood bark, and Tam will sometimes have them if she doesn't.

hello! I've notified the author of Caves of Qud Expanded , but apparently the latest 2.1.1 version overwrites the changes this mod makes to Joppa. Not sure how either your mod or CoQE can coexist, but this is just a head's up!

So I added this to an existing game. I was squatting in the gravedigger's hut north of Joppa proper and when the new NPCs from this mod were loaded in, all of the Joppa parasangs reset without warning...and I lost everything. I don't know if this is because I didn't read something I was supposed to, but I thought I would get the word out.

Has an error occurring when loading. Seems to still be working fine but saw it when looking into some crashing I was having from another mod. Lovely mod and really helped me when i was just starting out, I do recommend to any new players.
